Who killed Jenny?

I think it was Bette.

I just finished watching the last episode about 5 minutes ago. I think it might've been a suicide. Earlier in the episode she tells Shane she's going to kill herself and leave her everything.

reply

I agree with you.

I literally just finished the series and I am so disappointed by lack of any sort of conclusion. That was such a huge cliffhanger. And not only with the Jenny thing but with everybody. Love the series but so bummed by the ending.

reply

Agree with you on that. Love the show but hated that ending!

I'm not sold 100% on the suicide theory. I am and I'm not. If she was planning on committing suicide, why did she have such an interest in making sure that Bette told Tina about her "affair"- why not tell Tina before killing herself?
And why do it at Bette and Tina's house?
I also can't imagine anyone that angry at Jenny to kill her, yet they are at a house party with her. Unless it was Nikki...
The whole season depicts Jenny's depression and leads us to believe it is a suicide but why did Alice say someone killed Jenny?

reply

Bette kept saying to be careful with the fragile banister, do not lean on it, it needs to be fixed.

Why saying so many times such detail. Lead me to think there was an accident.

Warning: Contains a BIG spoiler.

The answer is actually hiding in plain sight.

Season 6 was a set-up for an L Word spin-off series called The Farm, also written and produced by Ilene Chaiken. It was to be set in a women's prison and although a pilot was filmed, Showtime decided not to pick it up. Based on the subsequent success of Orange Is The New Black, they're probably kicking themselves now.

From the plot summary, "After being convicted of [the] murder [of] Jenny Schecter, Alice is incarcerated in California's Humboldt State Farm and Prison for Women. Arriving alongside Alice is Valentina Galindo, a seemly humble articulate woman but beneath her gentle exterior lies a ruthless woman. She is feared by all and thought to be the most dangerous woman in California, while only convicted for racketeering, drugs and assault. Valentina is believed to be the Hitler of LA's underground responsible for ordering countless murders. Valentina has many enemies who would offer a handsome reward for her head."

You can find it in the IMDb here:

There were a few hints dropped in the final episode, such as when Alice was interviewed by the detective who asked why she thought Jenny was "killed." Alice also made a big deal about forgiving Jenny for pirating her script, as if to deflect any future suspicion of guilt. Of course, mystery aficionados know that the person who discovers the body is often the prime suspect.

Presumably, if The Farm had been produced as a series, there would have been cameos by various TLW characters, as well as flashbacks to the fatal night and the subsequent trial. Unfortunately, the pilot was never shown or even released direct to DVD and is still in la Chaiken's vault. Too bad, since I really liked the cast and felt cheated by a final season that was only designed to serve her career and not fans of the series. Looking back to the very last shot in the final episode where the principal characters (including Jenny!) come out and take their "bows," based on their expressions, I suspect the actors felt that way, too.

Being convicted doesn't mean she was guilty. It doesn't even say she was guilty, just that she was convicted.

reply

Ugh, who cares? I was so tired of Jenny by the end.

reply

My bet was suicide. She had come unhinged and was hopeless. She had a history of mental health issues through the whole series, so....
