Does anyone know why Frank Oz didn't want to do this movie? His talents were truly missed in this movie. Fozzie and Piggy's stand in did a pretty good job, but Sam the Eagle definately didn't sound the same. I do hope that Mr. Oz will come back for another Muppet movie.
It's not that Frank didn't wanna do the movie. He's too busy directing to do his Muppets these days. However, once the new Muppet Show gets off the ground, he'll be back:) Kissy, kissy, wocka, wocka. P.S.: I thought Kevin did well w/Sam.
Kermit was pretty good-- it's hard to duplicate that voice. Piggy was so-so, Fozzie was GREAT, and yes, Sam the Eagle absolutely sucked. He sounded nothing like him!!
And Frank Oz being too busy directing to voice a couple of puppets is pure crap. He's only made 1 movie since 2001. I betcha if this movie was directed by Jim Henson (or God forbid George Lucas) he would have signed on faster than you could say wocka wocka. He ought to be ashamed of himself after he heard that Sam voice.
There were parts in this movie where Eric Jacobson (the voice replacement) made Fozzie and Piggy sound too similar to each other. Sometimes he let Fozzie's voice get too high.
JD: (Oh my god, do not say splotchy.) Good splotchy, Dr Splotchy.
He hasn't retired. Eric Jacobson, and others, perform his characters when he is unavailable. He sometimes performs his characters with the stand ins (ie: Frank would play Grover, and David Rudman would perform Cookie Monster, etc).
I haven't seen this movie myself, but I have seen the jobs done by the stand ins on Sesame Street. I find Bert sounds too much like Fozzie (they sound similar to begin with, but Bert can sound too high pitched at times as can Grover).
There is major difference with Frank doing the voices and others: ad-libbing. Simply put, Frank's personality is funnier when he performs these characters, especially the time Cookie Monster was on Martha Stewart. The ad-libbing was a laugh riot.
Iguess it's one thing to be able to duplicate Frank's voices, but it's another to duplicate his personality with the characters.
Frank is working...her directed Stepford Wives and is in SW Episode 3. We don't know how long he needed to work on those films and it is quite possible that he was indeed too busy to take part.
I'm a big tough girl. I tie my own sandals and everything.
also after all these years he's trying to move away from the muppets, he's been doing it since it began and he's seen so many people die, like jim henderson or move on to different and better careers and he wants that for himself, good on him really
