You people take things too seriously
It's disappointing to see people talk about how the script was bad because the plot went nowhere and in circles and blah blah blah...does anyone else realize that there is more than one type of movie. Here's the difference. Everyone is looking for a plot driven movie because they saw the previews that were like "rappers die and these detectives have to figure it out." Well guess what, that's a good preview because it doesn't talk at all about what the film is about (which is, supposedly good to develop interest in the film and then, boom, it's not what you thought, so it makes it cooler. I mean I wouldn't have seen the movie because I thought the preview looked awful, but since nothing else was playing that day, I saw it, and I was pleasantly surprised). This movie is called a character driven story. Is it just me, or did you already know who killed who and why less than 20 minutes into the movie? 5 year olds who haven't seen the movie knew who the killer was before the opening credits. Why is it like that? Because the writer isn't concerned with who killed who. He's concerned about what else is going on in the lives of these two detectives ie. real estate and getting a lot of chicks through yoga. It's about characters, not story. So when you are in the middle of the movie and you are like, "well duh, of course he killed them for this and that and they're being set up and yada yada" and your saying wow this plot really sucks, well you're right sherlock, the plot is not fancy or original or anything. It's not the important part of the movie. Did anyone here see "In the Bedroom?" Who thought that plot was cool and original? Not many people I bet, I'm sure I didn't. Why was it nominated for a bunch of oscars. Because it was a great character movie. I'm not going to put Hollywood Homicide on an Oscar level because it surely wasn't that (yeah, some people do have a point when they say there isn't much chemistry between Ford and Hartnett...although I haven't seen Hartnett have much chemistry with any of his co-stars in past films) but it was funny, it had clever dialogue, and it had interesting characters. And that was the whole point...so high marks for doing what it set out to achieve. Just because you couldn't see what it was all about doesn't make the movie bad.
