Negative

What is it with you guys almost everbody seems to be so negative about everything not just this movie but every other movie as well

reply

I'm getting the same feeling. It seems that unless Peter Jackson or Joel Silver have a hand in it, no one thinks it'll be good. True, a lot of movies are crap, but let's at least give them the benefit of the doubt at first. Sometimes films can surprise you, and sometimes, well, they make you want to gouge out your eyes. But let's at least try to have a positive attitude here people and not prejudge everything. I want to see this one, the previews look pretty funny.

[claps hands] my thoughts exactly moviegoer. Harrison's last few movie choices have been fantastic. I think he's also been choosing for roles that he's going to enjoy filming, rather than what executives are gonna be excited to see him in. If Harrison enjoyed himself during filming, it's going to show in the finished product and hopefully that will equal in box-office success!

whu.....are you kidding me? yeah, harrison ford has done some great roles. I mean yeah i can't forget star wars, crap like dat. But presently, ford is putting out *beep*. k-19 are you kidding me? he's played the same role for about 20 years. yeah he's been doin it well, but he's not using his talent. he's the hero, the edgy hero everyone pulls for. why can't he play somethin else? maybe a baseball player like dennis quaid. at least gibson had the balls to play a gritty hero in payback. but ford, nope, same, han solo saves the day. granted he's a good actor, dont' get me wrong, but his last couple of movies, can't frickin come close. what lies beneath was a scary movie, didn't break new ground. k-19 was ford being ford. didn't break any new ground, and people saw that, and didn't go to it. hollywood homicide could be good. this time it's a comedy, am i gonna plunge 6.50 for it. nah, prolly not.

reply

I agree... to a point. Ford is a great actor, in my opinion. Some of those Tom Clancy roles - wow. But K-19? Not one of his finer moments. What was with that forced, unconvincing, poorly delivered accent? I mean, I think I would have enjoyed the movie 10,000 times more if he had just talked in his normal voice.

And speaking of Tom Clancy, the best ever submarine movie, hands down, would have to be the Hunt for Red October. It would have only been better if Harrison Ford had played Jack Ryan. :-)

reply

I agree Harrison's accent wasn't up to par in K-19, but neither was Liam's. If you can look past that, though, I think they both acted good throughout. Also: you did mention What Lies Beneath, which was a different type of role for Ford, which I think he pulled off with aplomb! My wife and I were completely fooled by that one the first time we saw it.

reply

Actually, my buddy is dating a russian girl who says that Ford's Georgian accent (when he didn't slip out of it) was spot on, I tend to believe her over a bunch of American critics. In regards to Hollywood Homicide, I think you have to live, or have lived, in LA to really appreciate this film, it was less of a "buddy cop" film than it was a "poke fun at LA" film.

Harrison wasn't the problem in this film. It was that ugly sorry azz actor Hollywood keeps trying to force down our throats...Josh Hartless! He was week! Next to Harrison? they should not have paired these two. It was as bad as sorry azz Ben Afleck with Morgan freeman. These younger actors are soft! Save your money!!!!!!

reply

I have to say, when I first set out to see this movie, I thought I would be bored out of my mind. Into the first half hour of the movie, I was glad I payed 8 bucks for it--I'd definately go see it again. I don't know why everyone said it sucked, cause I didn't see any suckyness. It was very funny. I don't know who posted it, but I agree with whoever said that "you have to live in LA or have gone to LA to understand the concept of the movie." now, I've never been to LA, but NY has gotta be something like it, so I'm comparing it to that, lol. Anyways, the movie was good, everyone go see it. If you've seen it and didn't like it, don't complain here, no one wants to hear your crap. =D

I agree with ya!

Any negativity I would have would be based on the awful unentertaining trailer... Nothing to do with the fact that it is not Joel Silver or Peter Jackson. Many of the people who come to this site are obviously movie nerds and have a pretty good idea what the difference bewteen a good and bad trailer is... and can make a general assessment on the quality of the movie. Add to that the fact that the movie has allegedy tested poorly and reshoots were in order (which alone don't infer a bad movie, but can be symptomatic of one).

Plus they are opinions... which are plentiful.

Hollywood Homicide turned out to be surprisingly funny.

I'm not from Australia I am in fact from Glasgow, Scotland where in fact Colin Friels of Water rats was from so technically he aint an aussie either :p I also have the same first name as Colin Friels. But who has Oz produced? Mel Gibson, Nicole Kidman, Guy Pearce, Russell Crowe, Eric Bana, Heath Ledger, Paul Hogan, and prolly more names.

I look forward to seeing Hollywood Homicide in september.

reply

Well, if technically Colin Friels isn't Australian since he was born in Scotland, then technically neither is Mel Gibson since he was born in New York ;-)

And don't forget Austrailia also gave us Yahoo Serious :p

reply

He was born in New York - Westchester county to be exact - and he currently lives in Greenwich, CT.

I hate to say it but this was the worst movie I've seen in a long time. Granted I usually read 3 or more reviews (and I'm not talking about Gene Shalit here)and when the concensus is negative I just give it a miss. Woe is the day I get free sneak preview passes and go to a movie against my better judgment (I thought the trailer looked horrible). After reading the postings from viewers here and other websites (mostly favorable) I was kinda looking forward to the film. Phew!!! What a stinker. Bad writing (characters just spewing exposition), stock villians (with no real motivations i.e. they are villians and therefore do villainous things), and lame action scenes (honestly quite boring). I didn't believe Josh Hartnett's character could have attained detective rank for a second, and Harrison Ford looked embarrassed throughout the whole film. I could go on and on. Just about everything wrong with Hollywood filmmaking is up there on the screen for two hours. I think I'd watch Collateral Damage again before watching this one, and I HATED Collateral Damage. Don't say you weren't warned.

I hated Hollywood Homicide. It is feeble and lame and jumpy and loud and just plain poor movie making.

NOT TRUE!!!!

Glengarry Glen Ross is the greatest Real Estate Movie Ever Made!

but on subject, I would say, Hollywood Homicide was much better than I expected, to be honest, I only really saw it because I had spare time and because I love seeing movies taking place in hollywood and then thinking to myself "Hey I know where that is!" and all that pathetic stuff (I did the same in the italian Job) Not only did I get to see That but I got a really fun (albeit unrealistic) chase seen and some ocasionally (not always) funny dialogue.

Dont get me wrong, its not perfect, I enjoyed it more than the italian Job, but still, its completley forgetable and I dont know if I would see it again, but still, It filled my time, nicely.

What gives you a right to say that? They are WAY better movie makers than u so just sit down and shut up.

reply

i agree with you, as a die hard Harrison Ford AND Josh Hartnett fan, i can't wait to see this movie. and even with all the negative crap that's being said about it, i know for a fact that i'm gonna want to see it at least twice before it comes out on video. most of the people who say bad things about movies are too picky anyway. IT'S A MOVIE! It's not supposed to be exactly perfect. As long as it keeps my attention, it's good enough for me.

reply

I just saw Hollywood Homicide and I thought it was a good summer movie. I mean no one is going to win an Oscar for it but did anyone really think that was the case. I am normally not a Josh Harnett fan. The only thing I really liked him in was Pearl Harbor, but I thought he was funny. It was fun to see Harrison Ford do a comedy, very Working Girl. All of his movies can't be Witness.

reply

I totally agree. Not a pinnacle of cinematic excellence but a hysterical, cute little mess--just what I like in a summer movie, and in a man ;)

(Who can deny the chick-magnetism of this movie?)

reply

I'm not sure. Do you make it a habit of following each and every one of us around IMDB just to see what we've posted?

reply

Ewwww. that's all i can say about this movie. Ewww. It was terrible, utterly awful. I feel bad for Harrison, and for Josh H. Most of the time I just felt embarassed for everyone involved. don't see it, and if you really want to see it, wait for DVD, it really isn't worth it.

It was an okay movie. There were some funny parts and some pretty boring parts. I don't know about anyone else but I laughed so hard at the part when they're in the questioning room! It was great! The two of them were hilarious!
