Should have came out in the late 90s

During the teen slasher craze. Scream, I Know What You Did Last Summer, H20, Valentine, Final Destination, etc. etc.

Freddy and Jason were absent for this era and this is the closest they got. Would have been neat if this movie came out 4-5 years earlier.

I agree. It's a shame they couldn't get the license away from Paramount for so long. The movie was good. I think it could have been better if it was released years earlier though. Watching the Never Sleep Again documentary, they had alot of ideas they were tossing around and scripts they had been written that seemed interesting.

Shut the fck up!

i feel you but this movie still would have been lame regardless. it needed a more "realized" screenplay.

It would've been too meta, wouldn't it?

I don't think it would have been better as a 1997/1998 film than what we got in 2003.

Now 1988-1989 may be up for debate, hard to picture how this would have turned out in the late 80s.

They *did* try to get this made all throughout the 90s, and it couldn't get off the ground because all the scripts they commissioned all had overly complicated plots trying to get Freddy and Jason to meet and fight each other, usually introducing elaborate high-concept gimmicks that didn't resemble either A Nightmare on Elm Street or Friday the 13th at all.

Even if they'd managed to reign that in earlier, I'm not convinced FvJ would've turned out all the different in the late 90s. It already is pretty much the last of the Scream wave of horror, if it had come out 4 or 5 years earlier I think it would've been much the same but with worse special effects, and I suspect it would've only leaned even more into cheesiness, not less.
