I think I know why

This animated feature has such a poor reception; the overly corny music. There are a few lines from one of the songs that goes "We are happy, a happy family" ... i get that this is an animated feature mainly targeted at children. Though, take a look at Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and even Snow White. The songs were well though-out for the film, they were a lot more serious and none of them included outdated pop music.

I had to cringe at almost every song scene, which felt more like a bad youtube montage than a feature film, and it would completely ruin the immersion for me.

It makes sense that it was the music, because it was so oppressive and really took a lot out of the entire thing. Such a shame because it's an otherwise brilliant movie.
