That was kind of hard to ignore, as I'm sure it was meant to be. This movie is full of Renaissance-era anachromatic items, much like "The Flintstones" was. And I'm referring to the John Goodman movie as much as I am to the original Hanna-Barbera prime-time cartoon.

I missed the glass sneakers before. Great one!

How about the newspaper the father is looking through? Ever take a good look at the print on the page? There is the personals section: "elf seeks ogre" and "please send recent sketch", and then there's the want-ads: "abacus programmer, ogre wrangler, dragon sitter" and so much more. Hysterical!

reply

thats hilarious!!

"send recent scetch"

"dragon sitter".. its fabulous

i also like the magazine hattie is going through as they ride to ella's house, its git something like 'how well do you know chr' or somehting, teehee

reply

Yes--it's one of those teen magazine quizzes.

How 'bout this one--the name of the fairy retirement community where Lucinda was supposedly staying--"Dun Flyin".

Just caught that one today. (I'm showing the film to my ninth grade English classes this week. All adjudicated boys at a residential facility for troubled boys.) They are loving it--sounds crazy huh? I also show "Princess Bride" and "Ladyhawke" evey year--two other romantic, fantasy, fairy tales. They really get into these films and they are great writing prompts. who knew?! :)

These ones may be a little over the top, but Labrynth and Legend are both sort of in that chategory, and more boyish. I was born in 88 but grew up watching all those movies because my brother is 8 years older than me. To this day we watch many movies together. Anyway, this and Shrek are two of the only recent movies that I can enjoy in a similar way that I enjoy Princess Bride

During the comentary Anne says about Carey Elwes that she was in love with him in the Princess Bride and it made me so happy :P

"Ah. Multiple exclamation points, the true sign of a deranged mind."

How about when Char and his uncle are going to Frell, the sign says-

Welcome to Frell!
Home of the largest ball of string

Or somthing like that, I found it amusing.

How about the "Bat-ox" injection. I forget exactly. I think it was bat guano and ox blood. Botox. hahah. and did you see the huge needle he was going to use? And, later, at the ball, her frozen face all bat-oxed up.

I love the scene at the Giants' bar with Ella singing the Queen song "Somebody to Love" with her performance improving as she is obedient to "commands" given to her by the audience.🐭

reply

Not really a spoof, but funny timing. When Ella finds Slannen tied up in the forest she goes to help untie him. He says "I think I'm gonna puke" and she says "let me help you with that"... Ha ha ha ... Let me help you puke ! ;D

reply

When Slannen gags/strangles after a giant farts in his face!!

reply

When the evil step family arrives at Ella's house there is a sign on the top of the carriage/cab. It advertises a play: "I know what you did last century"
