i mean it first starts out as fun

then you pull your family down
then you have to fight to get out

No. I believe the story is whole in itself and not a metaphor for anything else, but if you must stretch a point, it's easier to make it into a warning against pedophilia.

I mean, here's this neglected kid being preyed on by a lying, evil adult figure, who pretends they have a loving relationship.

" Jack, you have debauched my sloth! "

i will stay have to say the drug additciotn thing makes more sense then the pedophilial thing.

wiht the drug connection it's like Coraline is doing something that she likes but is bad for her and only at the end when she realizes it is bad for her does she try to pull out
but it's to late to pull out
without a fight

now the pedophilia thing
i don't get that
the evil mother wanted to eat not sleep with her

nah I think it's just the typical movie plot.

The imagery in the film is very psychedelic- I think it basically portrays a trip that starts out great and then turns bad.
If you think about it, Coraline's desperation to get back into the Other World at first could be seen as withdrawal symptoms. Then the last trip she made was in a frightened state of mind so everything around her turned more and more twisted and creepy.

The book was one of my favourites as a child...it was kind of weird growing up and realising that is was basically about an acid/LSD trip that went wrong.

No, no, no...I'm not insulting you, I'm describing you.

Not only drug addiction, but any possible addiction that first seems like a best thing you've ever had before it shows it's true nature.

reply

Nice interpretation but it's about not taking what you have for granted.

reply

Not really, no.
