You know what I think?

That while the first movie and the book were about the resistance to feminism, I think this remake was more about the backlash of women and sociey agianst the more radical anti male form of feminism that dominates politics today.

What do you think?

I think this movie was a catastrophe, because I found no likable characters at all in it... unless you count the robo-dog.

Kidman's character has some saving graces only because she makes an effort to be more of a home-maker than a ball-busting TV exec with a horrible line-up of Man-hate programming.

Midler's character was horrible. Jerry-the-flaming-gay-guy was okay, and he seemed to actually like some aspects of the town even prior to his transformation, and Broderick seems to be the guy you're supposed to care about, but he fall short as he's almost willing to replace his wife with a simulacrum (or re-program her - same difference, really).

All the characters are selfish, judge mental and sometimes downright mean to each other. I can see the main couple is who we're supposed to identify with, but seriously, they were both so screwed up, partly due to the above mentioned man-hating feminist movement, that I couldn't stand any of them.
