Question concerning Magick in and outside the game

I hope this isn't too odd an inquiry; I'm not a practitioner of magick but I have researched the topic a little. The spells in the game actually seem like part of a workable system of spell casting. The runes are phony of course, but I think I read once that real runes (elder futhark)can be joined together by meaning to form specific spells. The spell circles also remind me for some reason of the sephiroth tree in cabala.

So my question is for any of you neo-pagans and whatnot out there; is this game based on or akin to any real ritual system?

Technically they're not runes. Whereas runes (like letters) form an alphabet of sorts, the 'runes' in Eternal Darkness form a vocabulary.

They're more like glyphs.

Each one of those rune/glyph/symbols represents a phrase or part of a word. But each spell requires an alignment. If only you knew the true name of god. Be kinda interesting to take some little rune/glyph/symbols have them blessed by various practitioners of religions and seeing how it turns out. Nothing probably, but at least you'll have the most awesome set.

It now became apparent (despite the lack of library paste)that something had happened to the vicar;
