Swords seem to be too good of weapons in this game.

I love how this game is a close range barbaric fighting type of game. I really like "mediaeval-like" weaponry. However, I thought some of the swords were a little too powerful. Yes some swords are better than others, but the shotgun should really do more damage than it does.

But ignoring the guns, some weapons should have been a bit more powerful over the swords. The mace in Luther's level was rather weak compared to the sword when in technicality, maces were more powerful and should have done more blunt damage to the creatures.

I would have liked to see some other middle-age weapons. Battle-axes, maul hammers, flails etc. They could have had all their advantages and disadvantages. Swords would be good overall and be great for skilled use, whereas axes and hammers would be great in all-out attacks bludgeoning creatures. The swords would be weaker, but the character would be slower and get tired much faster with a few swings of a hammer or mace of some sort.

Maybe in a sequel......

A lot of people said the ranged weapons were crap. But I reckon you just need to learn to use them properly. I kicked arse with Ellia's blow dart, and especially with Michaels assault rifle.

I agree, Karim's Ram Dao was just way too powerful. lol. But it was fun to just chop zombies left right and centre.

I think the game stayed away from the ranged weapons because they wanted to get away from the mindless shoot-em-up stereotypes. It gave the game a closer feel I suppose. But the shotgun, crossbow, and blow darts should have been much more powerful.

Karim's level was one of my favourites. Sometimes the different time era gives the presence of a different "place" almost. I still wonder why Karim had his own set of music in the Forbidden City however.

reply

Every character had different music.

I liked how each new set of music for a level, took some of the previous ones, and added a new layer.

Except for Maximillians. I thought his music was completely different to anything else.

reply

Karim's is MUCH different though to the normal theme of the forbidden city.

The reason swords are overpowered in this game is because you can pretty much always behead the zombies in one swing with them. When they are headless, they don't drain your sanity and they stop walking towards you. Just rushing into a mob of zombies and R cycling to behead them is so easy, then you can take them out from behind at your leisure.

I disagree with this thread.

Long range weapons may take getting used to. Although the Crossbow is the worst, and Maximillian's pistol's are pretty poor. But if you got a quick finger on the Z button, it's not so bad.

Anyway, Ellia's blowgun is awesome, with no reloading and added poison damage, it kicks arse.

As well as Michael's assault rifle... that is pure gold. An overkill supply of ammo, and a large rate of fire. I kicked so much arse with this beauty.

Ooh, one thing I forgot to add, that the targeting system is flawed. You can aim at the arms and head, but the only real purpose that cutting off the arms is mostly for novelty value. And when you're in a tight space, which is most of the game, especially at the oublie stages, your hits will hit the walls, so you really just get into the habit of slashing at the head, which does the most damage anyway, making the other attacks mostly superflouis.

Psshhh, the shotgun pwn3d. Anyway, it's not like you were forced to use firearms. Every character had some type of melee weapon.

The long sword in Anthony/Paul/Peter chapters, while a hidden item, was totally worth it, that thing freakin' killed anything.

I just thought of another disadvantage to firearms, the annoying ass bonethiefs always dodged them.

Well, given that the best way to take the various creatures out is to remove their limbs in a particular order, a mace wouldn't have worked well. Especially the red zombies. Too much thick muscle. You'd need a nice sharp blade to cut them.

But that bastard sword you repeatedly get...that sucker was insanely powerful.

And THAT is where babies come from.
