This movie was so miserably devoid of humor, it's unbelievable that this movie got a theatrical release (see trivia for explanation.) And a $40 MILLION budget? What a complete joke! What part could anyone call funny? I think there was supposed to be all this sybolism throughout perhaps about the deadly sin the title conveys, and I think Walken's character was supposed to portray the devil? Was this a retelling of a fable or bible story of some kind?
shareNot a bible story, nor was Walken suppose to be the devil. It's merely a take on envy like you pointed out, in a fashion that takes on the capitalist system and the injustices therein. Walken represents the true philosopher, someone who understands the system and life in general and has no need for material enterprise, yes he is tempted, but in the end he realises he was right all along and runs away from the corruption...

I think THEMBLUES has a very close relationship with god because shes bitching about the title having a sinful 'Deadly" name man you have ISSUES!
