Ok, I like Jack Black and Ben Stiller. I have a sense of humor and I am a fan of their stupid for the sake of funny movies. But, I was HORRIFIED at the idea that killing a horse was one of the major plot events in this movie. And no, I am not a militant animal activist by any means, but speaking as a horse owner and a barn manager, this was disgusting! Of course animals being killed are depicted in movies occasionally, and I hate seeing it but if it is handled tastefully and is important to the plot then so be it. But the fact that such a horrific act is portrayed in such a light-hearted "comical" way really makes me sick. If such a thing had happened in real life to those kids, I guarentee it would have traumatized them for life. I may sound like I am overreacting, but I expected much more than this from comedians and actors I respected. Don't waste your money on this one!
The horse wan't killed by the arrow, like they said that would do nothing to a horse, I grew up on a horse farm and i see nothing wrong with this at all, it was intrical to the plot because, if you watched, the horse was poisoned by the Va-poo-rise, which brings about the downfall of the pair's empire. Whether or not it's handled tastefully is a matter of oppinion. It wasn't just there for comedic effect, rather it was a plot device to demonstrate the extent to which greed can drive a man, honestly i think you missed the whole point of this movie if all you saw was Stiller and Black being stupid for the sake of a funny movie as you put it...
"We are all just prisoners here, of our own device."
Well I think you're taking each of my comments out of context, but that's beside the point. I realize at the end of the movie the real cause of the death of the horse was mentioned but that was NOT even my point. My point was that I find it disgusting that the makers of this movie could treat the shooting of a horse as a punchline. I realize that it was "a plot device to demonstrate the extent to which greed can drive a man" but my point is that I think it is a SICK plot device and I hated the movie. As you said, it is a matter of opinion but you contradict yourself by insulting my intelligence because I have an opinion you don't agree with.
Oh, PS. In reference to the 'stupid for the sake of funny' part, I wasn't referring to this movie because I didn't find this movie funny at all actually. I was referring to those actors' other films. (If you expect me to find some deep intellectual meaning behind such 'blockbusters' as Dodgeball, Anchorman, Something About Mary, etc., you'll be sadly dissappointed) Those movies are stupid for the sake of funny and I've enjoyed them, but I repeat my opinion that this movie wasn't at all funny, but offensive.
If you dissagree, fine, great, I really don't care. Just don't tell me I "missed the whole point". I just didn't LIKE the frigging point.
Once again, I get the plot. I realize that it WASN'T real. I'm just saying that I didn't like the movie because of this. I wish someone had warned me and I never would have wasted my money on this movie, which is why I just giving others who may be offended fair warning.
It was one of the few things i laughed at. There isnt much funnier than killing a horse with an arrow. Yes, i realize he wasnt killed by the arrow, but the audience thought he was and it made me laugh.
It's a movie. Did you waste your money on it, because it was very boring and unfunny? Yes. Did you waste your money on it because it is offensive and disgusting? No. It isnt either one. If youre offended or disgusted by this, you are either a young kid or an old person. Considering old people dont know how to use computers, i'll have to assume youre about 10. If not, i recommend you stop being such a whining vagina.
A warning? What the hell is that about? Did you cry or something?
Dude, this horse was so obviously stuffed! No one on this board has anything to worry about, they wouldn't use a real horse unless they're filming it while it's alive! And while I do think the idea of killing the horse was a bit off, I realize that it was important to the plot and all that stuff. Plus I could plainly see that the horse was stuffed.
First off I want to say that I love horses like many of you claimed. I wouldn't want to see a dead horse in front of me. I'll find it more horrific if I see a dead person in front of me (not like in a funeral, y'all know what i mean). Let me assume that's the case for you too. If so, do you find all these movies with people dying offensive and disgusting?
As the original poster said, if such thing happened to those kids, they would be traumatised. Now wouldn't that be the same, or probably even worse, if a friend or a member of a family passes away? This happens awfully much in movies as we know.
Oh and when i recommend a movie to someone, I wouldn't go warning them if there's a person who dies in it. Like I wouldn't warn anyone specifically about a horse dying in this film.
Are you offended by the fact that a horse was killed in this movie? Humans die in a myriad of movies, do those offend you as well? You might as well stick to Disney movies if you find any kind of death IN A MOVIE, offensive.
