I don't understand one thing (poss. Spoilers)

I was wondering this. When you play the whole game through and play again, you're now able to understand the gods when they speak Hylian. (I won't mention that when the King talks to Jabun in English he still responds in Hylian) But when Jabun asks the KRL if he has found the descendant of the Legendary Hero, the king responds that he unfortunatly has not. Yet the sheild and sword are still passed down from his family, and later the king talks to Link as if he was the original. So was the king mistaken, or was it possible that the last of the original hero's bloodline left no descendants and therefore a new hero had to be named? Maybe I misinterpreted something.

I believe that it's not a blood relationship between Link's. It's more of a reincarnation, the Spirit of the hero of time is reborn every generation also zelda's spirit is reborn because link and zelda are soulmates. I realized this When in the Ocarina of time when Zelda asks for link's name she say's "link, strange it sounds so firmilar" and when Ganon is vanquished to the Realm between this world and the golden land he say's. "i will take my revenge on your decendants" so the keepers of the Triforce must be linked through a mystical bond that hinges on the spiritual level, and every time that Ganon grows strong enough to leave the dark world(I.E a link to the past) he is drawn to those who are the reincarnated souls of the original link and zelda who vanquished him so many years ago.

Thinking back, His uniform is just a ceremonial thing that every kid does when they come of age. The shield seems like something unique from the Zelda 64 series, but you could buy them at the store in hyrule so everyone could have had one. His sword was just called "Hero's Sword" so it was just a plain old sword, and it was not even his to begin with.

Really I doubt that the origional Link returned to Hyrule after Zelda: Meijora's Mask. When you enter the game you are turned into a deku skrub. And as a Deku you can float over a series of platforms. If Link gives back all his masks at the end of the game how does he get over those series of platforms? Hookshot would not work since there was nothing to hook onto.

Well I'd have to say one thing. The first Link was in Link To The Past. LTTP took place 100 years before the first Legend of Zelda game. Then it was Links Awakening. Oracles-Seasons and Ages, Ocarina then Meijora's Mask. Wind Waker takes place a least 100 years after Ocarina. So when they say that WW's Link isn't the Hero of Time he isn't because he's not weilding the Master Sword, Later The King of Red Lions says. "Only the Hero of Time can pull this sword from the pedestal." Bla Bla Bla then Link is bestowed with the power of the Hero of Time, which is basicaly possessing the Triforce of courage in his heart(or hand) and wielding the sword of evils bain.

I'm not entirely sure on your timeline, though. To me it seems more to be like this (although I will admit I've never beaten Majora's Mask or the Seasons/Ages games):

1. First is Ocarina of Time. This is the original game where Ganondorf opens the Golden Land, and becomes Ganon. He gets sealed away by someone from the order of the Knights of Hyrule, holding the Sword of Evil's Bane, and a group of Sages. All this is the legend which is the background for Link to the Past, as explained in the booklet.

2. Majora's Mask. This game is obviously after Ocarina because it's the same character, and even the same horse.

3. Link to the Past. The sealed Ganon kidnaps descendants of the Sages into the Golden Land-now the Dark World- and tries to open the seal. The Hero is drawn to the Dark World to do battle with Ganon and subsequently defeats evil.

4. The Legend of Zelda and Zelda II: The Adventure of Link. These are just recurring adventures of Link rescuing Zelda and fighting Ganon, while not providing much continuity.

5. Oracle of Seasons/Oracel of Ages. Although I'll admit I haven't fully played these games, I must place them somewhere between the last two which are:

6. Link's Awakening. This is the game where it's most evident to me that the Hero went away from Hyrule. The booklet states that Link went on a trip of self-enlightenment. It is at this point, I believe, that the people of Hyrule waited for the Hero to return and he didn't. Why was it? Was it because he was trapped in the Wind Fish's dream? Who knows how long he was in there? Scary part is when the game ends, Link just floats on a log in what seems like an endless sea. (Isn't it funny how I just placed what many consider the weakest and least continuity related Zelda game in such a pivotal position? Haha, I just love that lil' game!)

7. The Wind Waker. The people of Hyrule turned to the Gods for help, who in turn decided to sink Hyrule under the sea after years of torrential rains.

How's that?

sounds plausible, though i only played oot,and mm,so all of this is news to me

Thank you.
I gave that timeline some thought, but my intention was also to prove that Link couldn't be the same one in all the games.
It's the same character in Ocarina of Time and Majora's Mask. Even his horse, Epona, is the same in both games.

Then in A Link to the Past, the events of Ocarina are the stuff of legend. Link now has an uncle, instead of being an orphan like in OoT. Ganon cannot use the Sages to break the seal, so he uses the Sage's descendants. This is a long time after OoT so I think it's a different Link.
However, I don't see any reason why this couldn't be the same Link as in Legend of Zelda and Zelda II. Nothing states otherwise. There is the small fact that Ganon died in Link to the Past, but these demonic Ÿberbeings are always doing that.
The same goes for the Link in the Seasons/Ages games and EVEN Link's Awakening. I can't argue from anything in these games that it's not the same Link ever since Link to the Past, all the way to Link's Awakening.

But Wind Waker Link is definitely a new Link. So there may have been as many as three Links, I think.

Link's Awakening is a direct sequel to Link to the Past, and should fit in between it and The Legend of Zelda. Recall the Nightmares, which were partially based on Link's past experiences and included the Moldorm (first seen in the Tower of Hera in LttP) and the Shadows of Aghanim and Ganon. They were created from the memories of the Hero, and the Hero of Link to the Past is the only one who ever faced Aghanim.

The Oracles, I'm not completely sure of, but if I had to make a guess I'd say that they take place roughly between Legend of Zelda and Adventure of Link. From Impa's appearance, it's obvious that it's not the Ocarina of Time period (she looks like Legend of Zelda Impa; Impa never appears in the Link to the Past timeline), but Link's too young to be from Adventure of Link. So I'd guess between these two.

In general, Nintendo tends to do 2 Zelda games, and then wind the timeline back about a hundred years. So Zelda and AoL, then back for LttP and LA, then back for OoT and MM... and here we hit a snag, because we are specifically told by Nintendo that Wind Waker is actually a SEQUEL, not a prequel, to the Ocarina games. So how long after them does it take place? That's the burning question.

Either Wind Waker takes place long after ALL the other games, after Hyrule has been mostly sunk, OR Hyrule is eventually raised back out of the water sometime after the Hero defeats Gannondorf.

Since all later versions of Ganon are stuck in pig-demon form, my personal hypothesis is that this takes place between Link to the Past/Link's Awakening and The Legend of Zelda. When the Hero recovered the Triforce in the Dark World, his wish restored EVERYBODY to the Light World, including Gannondorf himself. Gannondorf awoke, human again, but still changed by the power of the Triforce: he had been in the Golden Land/Dark World so long that he had ceased aging. After the Hero disappears (Link's Awakening), he rises back to power while the Hero is away. The gods then sink Hyrule, but this does not stop Gannondorf.

Later, after the Hero defeats him again (Wind Waker), the energies of the Triforce of Power he keeps are unleashed over him, returning him to his pig-demon form for all eternity.

This is just a guess, of course, and doesn't explain why the geography of Hyrule changes so much from game to game, yet remains identical between Ocarina and Wind Waker (when you see it on the bottom of the ocean), but it's the best guess I can come up with. Anyone else want to take a stab at it?

The Four Swords storyline, such as it is (rather minamalist), should be after Wind Waker, as it seems to be the same Link. This does, however, introduce another problem: The Palace of the Four Sword, in Link to the Past's Dark World (GBA version, inside the Pyramid), was supposedly erected as a shrine to the hero of the Four Swords. So either its existence in LttP is an anachronism caused by its introduction into the port when it wasn't there in the original, or Wind Waker does, in fact, take place before Link to the Past but after Ocarina/Majora. The latter would help account for the geography... so, here's two possible timelines, without any details (just which Link is in each):

THE IMPRISONING WAR (Link 1, the Hero of Time)
Ocarina of Time
Majora's Mask

THE OPENING OF THE DARK WORLD (Link 2)
A Link to the Past
Link's Awakening

THE GREAT SEA (Link 3)
The Wind Waker
The Four Swords

THE MODERN AGE OF HYRULE (Link 4)
The Legend of Zelda
Oracle of Ages
Oracle of Seasons
The Adventure of Link

Alternate timeline: Switch Link 2 and Link 3, placing The Great Sea before the Opening of the Dark World.

I just want to make an attempt to clear up the timeline because it seems some of you people are stuck in the mud. . .

The first one in the timeline is Ocarina of Time. It's not just my belief or anything like that. Shigeru Miyamoto announced that it is the first. First Ganon, Zelda, and Link.

Majora's Mask is second because it takes place four months after Ocarina of Time. It says so in the instruction booklet.

The third could possibly be Oracle Series. This I just believe. I mean, it just seems to fit because Koume and Kotake are there trying to ressurect Ganon. But, then again, it is said that a flood occurs soon after the Hero of Time 'destroys' Ganon that flood the entirety of Hyrule, making the tops of mountains the new regions of Hyrule. This is from the Wind Waker (the introduction and when you talk to King Hyrule). So, this could take place another time. Possibly same Ganon, Link, and Zelda.

The next, which is also just a belief, would be the Wind Waker. It takes place 100 years after Ganon is 'destroyed.' The Sages have died out and there is no one protecting the barrier anymore. Ganon escapes, but is limited. He creates havoc to get someone to rise and release the Master Sword so he can return to his full power. He knows that the Master Swords power is scattered, so he thinks there is no one who can stop him. This is where things get kind of complicated. Link, from Outset, is not related to the Hero of Time. If you play the second quest, King of Red Lions tells Jabun this. Now, like I've read that someone else stated, it could be a reincarnation since the the first Link was most likely did not have a family. The Gods saw this and decided that they should ressurect him to fight Ganon should he rise again. And they just so happened to ressurect him on an island that's tradition was to garb themselves in green and find heroic blades to cast down evil. And that's exaclty what he did. But, there is one thing that confuses me. Anyone who's played Ocarina of Time knows that a child cannot weild the Master Sword. That is why the first Link was held in the Temple of Sages until he was an adult. WHAT HAPPENED TO THIS RULE IN THE WIND WAKER?? Link is only ten and yet he can weild it. Same Ganon, second Link, and second Zelda.

The next, I would think, would be A Link to the Past. Zelda and Link from the Wind Waker are gone. But, they left a new country of Hyrule. It is a prosperous country, but with evil rising once more, it is becoming less and less prosperous. The Princess Zelda would more than likely be a descendant of WW Zelda. Since Sages cann't get married (and assuming that WW Zelda was a Sage) there is reason to believe that WW Link and Zelda did not marry, so LttP Link and Zelda are in no way related. But, they are both descendants of WW Link and Zelda. And, of course, LttP Link rises to the occasion to defeat Ganon and save Zelda. Same Ganon, third Link, third Zelda.

Next in line: The Legend of Zelda. Ganon returns again to a diminished Hyrule and kidnaps Zelda once again. And Link rises again to defeat him. But, Ganon placed a curse on Zelda to make her sleep forever. Same Ganon, fourth Link, fourth Zelda.

Adventures of Link is next. Now, this may be a new Link. It is shown in the instruction booklet that Link meets Zelda for the first time while she is still sleeping. Yet, it is the same Impa that shows Link to that room from the Legend of Zelda. Ganon is trying to be revived through the one who destroyed him. Now, that really confuses me. If that were the same Link who destroyed him, he would know Zelda. But, he could be a ressurection of that Link or something like that. Maybe even a descendant. Same Ganon, possibly fifth Link, fourth Zelda.

Last, but not least: Link's Awakening. It assumed that he takes off after saving Zelda in AoL and ends up ship-wrecked on Koholint. It is assumed that this one is next because Marin reminds Link of Zelda. Marin looks like the Zelda from both LoZ and AoL. Fifth Link.

I think I covered the basics. I know it's long, but it's an even longer legend. To fully explain it, I'd have to sit here for months on end just typing. Most of this is based on my beliefs. I'm not saying you should believe this, just something to think about. There are still gaps in the Legend that need to be filled and hopefully Shigeru will explain them in future games. Until then, we wait.

didn't quite catch what you thought the first game was, but it has to be Ocarina. The king knows nothing of Ganon's evil plan, and in the other games his plans are well known. The king wouldn't let a known evil doer advise him or what not.
