Can you imagine natural life?
You can say many things about this movie, there are certainly things I don't like about it.
You can say many things about the olden days, the Samurai, Ninjas, Kimonos and japanese culture and history, there's certainly lots of cruelty, ignorance and warring in there somewhere. The isolationism was a big way to shoot oneself in the foot as a country, for example.
However, what brings tears to my eyes and charms me completely, are the depictions of 'normal life' in the village. The simple things, the amazing beauty of the ancient architecture-melding-with-nature.
The olden life back in the day must have been at least somewhat more natural and satisfying for all participants back then. The whole village caring about every individual, men and women working in harmony in their assigned roles for the benefit of the 'whole'.
People would probably feel more human, living such a simple, but fulfilling life, than modern people in big cities do these days, being inhumanized in so many ways.
Can you imagine a harmony in your life, where you don't need a clock, where you never hear traffic, where a factory doesn't stink up the neighbourhood, where you can have a natural sleeping rhythm with people that like and respect you, that you also like and respect? Can you imagine feeling useful for contributing to the village's needs, and being appreciated for it, while also doing the same for others on a daily basis?
Can you imagine how happy it would be to life a life for others and the whole, instead of the rat race of trying to fulfill selfish greed by reaching for the brass ring?
The old values in that village may be strict, but in the end, the overall happiness of everyone is at a high level in my opinion. Those village depictions make my imagination soar, thinking about the 'perfect life'. Of course nothing on the physical life will ever be 100% perfect, and people will still be people.
But environment and life like that, without the hassles of 'modern life' would encourage people to be kinder and more loving towards each other, and probably create a greater overall happiness.
