He's led that movie down to Desolation Blvd.

Cruise was one of the producers so therefore he calls the shots and he was clearly very good in this movie.

Oh hell no. Keanu Reeves would have ruined the movie. Tom Cruise did an outstanding job but I always felt that Christian Bale was meant the role of Nathan Algren even more than Cruise.

I pretty much am not a fan of Tom Cruise... I think over the years he has had his moments but overall his charm and charisma are lost on me...
however
I would be lying if I were to say that his role in "The Last Samurai" was not outstanding and probably his best film...

I'm not a TC fan but he was definitely good in this. Give the guy some credit for learning about 25 Japanese phrases and coming pretty darn close to the correct accent. I prefer Keanu in the Matrix, let Tommy Boy have his last samurai...that isn't asking too much is it. Besides Ken Watanabe makes up for any lack of true acting skills Mr. Mapother may/may not possess.

Fyi: I had the opportunity to meet TC when he was in HS, no disrespect but he was basically a short, average-American teen when I knew him...I myself was a self-absorbed jerk at the time (see how far I've progressed? :)
