Samurai Masterpiece

The film has everything. Beautiful cinematography and atmosphere, a very engaging script, and acting is top notch. The music score by Hans Zimmer drove the nail home so to speak. After watching this film more than 500 times it is still keeps me engaged and provokes those same emotions. Weather or not Algren Died from his wounds at the end i still like to think he found some small measure of peace that we all seek but few of us ever find. Great Ending when Algen and Taka make eye contact. Gave this film 10/10. Tom Cruise fan or not you have to give him respect for this performance.

I totally agree! I've only watched it three or four times, but it gets to me always. The story is rich; the music, poignant; the script flowing; and everything else you observed. If I were an actor, I would be on my knees praying that such a script and opportunity to exhibit my talent would come my way!

On the dvd, it is mentioned that Japan has declared an official 'Tom Cruise Day' in appreciation of his successful effort to sensitively portray the culture of the Samurai, an honor never extended to a foreign actor before or since.

After all the times I watched this film I never knew that. Thats great and its well deserved.

I agree wholeheartedly! A beautiful effort on all fronts. My favorite part is Cruise`s first introduction to the village life. `They are an extraordinary people `he writes `From the moment they rise, they devote themselves to whatever they do to perfection...There is something spiritual about this place`. The succession of scenes which are shown as his voice over narration is brilliant. What they ultimately accomplished during these scenes is the feeling of a viewer being transported into that special place; helped by a beautiful art direction, sweeping cinematography and Zimmer`s heavenly score. Brilliant!

It was a decent film. I think it was a little melodramatic, but it delivered what it promised.
