A Huge Rip Off of Dances With Wolves!
Is this not more or less the same story as dances with wolves? think about it.

shareExcept for that wolves are not indigenous to Japan, the Native Americans died in flashback, Mr Cruise arrived in the ancient far east by ship/Costner by horse, Cruise was a falling down drunk and I don't recall Costner's character drinking in DWW. Cruise was surrounded by people in Japan and had an interpreter, Costner was surrounded by prairie with one horse and one timid wolf. The samurai, modern Japanese soldiers, and Dakota Sioux have absolutely nothing in common. Cruise was an American mercenary and Costner was a commissioned officer. Hmmm, I'm still looking for similarities. The Sioux had their land taken with false treaties, the Samurai were trying to maintain their way of life: their land wasn't taken from them. Oh, the Japanese people in the movie spoke....Japanese. The Sioux spoke native Sioux?
....but you have a valid point, I just don't know what it is.
Oh, I'm sorry, DWW didn't have Ken Watanabe!!!
While I wouldn't go as far as calling this movies "rip-off" (that honor goes to crappy "Avatar"!) of DWW, it is quote obvious that the basic plot is very similar. Anybody who can't see that is just in denial. I find it hilarious the way some idiots refute the similarity by pointing out minor and stupid differences like DWW had Kevin Costner and TLS had Tom Cruise so that makes them totally different!. LOL! They are similar, not mirror images of each other, okay smart guys?
Mr McGee, don't make me angry. You wouldn't like me when I'm angry!
It is a very similar story. It is essentially taking place in the same time period too.
But who cares? People get so hung up over the fact that many movies have the same basic plots. The most effective and emotional movies are the ones that you connect with the most, and filmmakers and authors use familiar plots for a reason. Even wildly strange movies like eraserhead rely on familiar elements for audiences to enjoy them.
I dont consider this movie a rip off. The central theme and plot is the same, but there are so many details that go into this movie beyond that. The movies that I consider ripoffs are those movies you see on redbox that were intentionally produced with similar names and artwork to big name movies in attempts to confuse people into giving them their money. Regardless of the quality of the movie, to call it a ripoff is to insult all the side work that went into it.
I said the same thing.
Dances with wolves is a little more believable. This is loosely based off a french soilder which they should have just stuck to that story
It's the "Going Native" story trope. A bunch of movies have used it.
