A Huge Rip Off of Dances With Wolves!

Is this not more or less the same story as dances with wolves? think about it.

I thought it was closer in plot to 'A Man Called Horse' (1970): http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0066049/?ref_=nv_sr_1 Nevertheless The Last Samurai is now (having viewed for the first time a few days ago) one of my favourite movies.

It's from the same story archetype and is quite similar, but I wouldn't call it a huge rip-off of "Dances with Wolves". That's like saying "Dances with Wolves" is a huge rip-off of "Lawrence of Arabia", "A Man Called Horse", or "Run of the Arrow" to name a few. Don't get me wrong, I love "Dances with Wolves", but I'm just trying to put the point across that I think it's a little unfair to label this as nothing more than a rip-off of it. In fact I would call both "Dances" and "Samurai" two of my favorite movies.

...they do share the same concept - ...its not a new premise at all.
Thanks cowboy for stating the obvious. For sure there are similarities to say A Man Called Horse, but this is a completely different story and far more epic in nature. Among the different film genres and sub-genres many similarities do occur. Rest assured if the writers/producers of an earlier film think they have a case, they'll take it to court.

That hasn't happened here.

2 of my favourite movies. There are similarities, but I think both movies stand apart.

I know, right? They even take place in the same time period.

I can see the similarity there, but I have a hunch this movie may have been influenced even more by the TV series and novel, Shogun, by James Clavell. I'm watching the TV series right now and it's basically the same story, just set in the 17th century instead of the 19th.
