This is one of the most underrated films of all time.

One of the things that many people don't understand is that the historical details are incredibly accurate, including the actual meaning of Bushido(the way of the Samurai), and one of the things that I don't understand is why people argue with how certain phenomena is contrary to reality. People are way too literal, they need to actually SEE it right before their eyes to believe something can/can't happen. This film was crafted beautifully from start to finish, and the history was in fact, correct, and I'm not being bias, I'm telling it like it is.

Yeah especially the music and the way it's shot. Hans Zimmer's score is amazingly beautiful. Deserved an Oscar for best original score.

I love this film. I agree, it's really underrated. Everything about it beautiful, truly moving. And all the performances were wonderful, understated.

^^^Everything you said I feel too. I LOVE THIS FILM..Tom's BEST of all time in my opinion and should have been nominated for it. He's a great actor.

Tom Cruise gained my respect with this role (and also Eyes Wide Shut), because I believed him, I believed he was who he was playing. He's got impressive range. A PTSD alcoholic suicidal ex-soldier is not an easy role to play, especially for an actor of his pedigree and reputation as a pretty boy action star. Oscar worthy.

I agree, it is underrated. Even I, when the movie first came out, thought to myself, "Ugh, Tom Cruise in samurai armor? Another formula film ripping off Braveheart." But I was pleasantly surprised, whether it's historically accurate or not, this movie makes me cry man tears every time. It was shot well, directed well (I also loved Zwick's Glory), acted well, and is one of Hans Zimmer's best soundtracks, even though I'm tired of him.

Essentially, I started out already prejudiced against this movie, yet I enjoyed it anyway. :)

Agreed. I hate the complaints for this movie, it's as if they didn't watch the movie. I don't care about historical accuracy. I love this movie.

Ha-ha! I threw that *beep* before I walked in the room!

I personally have never heard anyone who didn't like it.
Not counting the tards on imdb of course. They'll find anything to bash, just for the sake of bashing.
It's my personal favorite.. Score included..

Frankly autocorrect, I'm getting a little tired of your shirt

I agree. One of the best things Tom Cruise has done. At turns a beautiful, moving, sad, and beautifully made film.

That said here I sit, dropped into the middle of the movie while changing channels and as I watch and know from seeing it many times before, what is coming. And knowing there is pain or sadness coming, find it hard to watch each time the depiction so real. Almost in the same way is the wonderful actor Ken Watanabe. He is an amazing actor with every nuance of emotion reflected in his face and eyes and not needing to utter a word.

The sword fight scenes, first attack at puppet show, and Cruise surrounded in town, are the best Samuri fight scenes I have ever seen.

Probably when Tom Cruise is an old man, people will take another look at what was created here.

Probably Tom Cruise's best performance to date and an excellent supporting cast esp. Ken Watanabe, Hiroyuki Sanada and Koyuki who has to be one of the most beautiful women ever to grace a movie screen. I thought the battle scenes were brilliantly executed and Hans Zimmer's score was one of his best. A very touching, realistic and beautiful film, one of my favourites.

This means something, this is important.
