i think this film is totally misunderstood it is a dark mysterious black comedy/drama if youre expecting something like dumb and dumber or swingers(another john favreau) movie youll be dissappointed the cast was excellent the acting was excellent i found it really funny, but not in a laugh out loud,side-splitting way the whole of this movie is just about this adventure this guy goes on and a whole bunch of weird messed up stuff happens, not a big deep plot.
i love it and strongly recommend it especially to fans of:
the coen brothers (especially the big lebowski) david lynch (especially mullholland drive) trees lounge (directed by steve buscemi_
I agree with you that this movie deserves a higher rating, but that is due to its symbolism and layers of depth.
I completely DISAGREE with you that this movie is "just about this adventure this guy goes on and a whole bunch of weird messed up stuff happens, not a big deep plot."
The thing that makes this movie so good is the hidden meanings that are symbolic of everyone's life at some point. It is multi-layered and much deeper than the surface activity alone.
If you saw this movie without any depth, then you saw a pretty boring movie about some guy that takes a risky messenger job into the desert and subsequently falls into an alien plot of creating a master race.
I feel sad for you if you truly only got THAT from this movie.
Everything ever placed in a movie is usually done with purpose and intent. They are starting from a clean slate and almost everything has to be thought of, in order to be put into the film.
The greatest reward for me in watching many movies, is to find these things to discover the hidden message by the writer(s) or director(s). From the license plates on cars, to the time on clocks, and even the signs on businesses in the background - - there are so many hidden messages in so many movies.... if you just look beyond what most initially see.
I will be watching this movie again, with a more enlightened viewpoint from the very beginning.
yeah you've got a good point i think i phrased myself wrong i KNOW that there's alot more stuff to the plot than is on the surface but what i basically meant by '..no deep plot' is that the movie is an easy watch and that it is a funny weird adventure a guy goes on i should have phrased my comments better i still haven't came to a proper conclusion as to what the film is about )yes,it is filled with symbolism) but ive only watched it once and i loved it so im gonna watch it again, and again, and again...
