Question about the blue eyes (contains spoilers)

If you originally saw this film in the theater, how obvious was John Person's change from brown eyes to blue at the end of the movie?

On the DVD copy I watched, it isn't even noticeable unless you are specifically looking for it, and then all that is visible is a very slight blue tinge around the edge of his irises that lasts just a second. His irises remain completely solid brown.

If I hadn't read about it on this board, I never would have known to go back and look for it.

It's disappointing, because if the eye color change was an important aspect of the mysterious ending of this film, then the transfer of the film to the DVD has all but obliterated it.

Thanks very much for your answer.
I wish I had seen the version you saw with the very blue eyes; it would have made the ending more intriguing. At least I'm glad to know that the color change shows up on cable channels.
On the DVD I watched, John's eyes didn't really change at all, and Grace's changed just barely.
Thanks again for your help!

i think that its just more noticable when you first see it. Then the next time around your looking for the eyes to be really blue and its not as blue as you thought.

vexner,

Perhaps your TV might be partially to blame. I just watched this movie yesterday on Showtime-HD cable, on a new HD LCD TV, and the blues were immediately apparent. It may even be that your settings on the TV are just too dark to bring out the vividness of the blues in the final bowling alley scene. Just a thought....

Happy movie watching to all. :-)

I watched it on cable with a regular TV and I noticed it immediately. And I'm pratically color-blind. I'm not kidding.

Good movie though. The first 20 minutes almost seem like a Favreau film. Pretty much the only reason I kept watching.

Just watched it on Showtime. I noticed the eye color change and then headed on here to see thoughts on the movie. I had never heard of it, and am quite glad that I watched it.

i didnt notice it at all, after reading about it on here i went back and checked it out on the dvd and im not surprised i missed it.

I noticed it easily on dvd, but I was actually looking for it because I had noticed how blue Cowboy's eyes were and I noticed Grace's changed, so I expected Jon's to change...

I think Bud Cort was the first to have those electric blue eyes. The change at the end looked good via DVD on a color-correct PC screen. I thought it looked amazing on everyone. What I don't get is what it was supposed to signify. Does anyone know?
