Director's Commentary

Being a big John Favreau fan, I have been waiting for this release. I really like this movie: the acting, directing, editing, script and cinematography were all excellent.

I love a film that requires interpetation, however I have one small problem... The Director's Commentary.

Steve Anderson spends 90 minutes talking about the film-making process. His statements are very cliche. Imagine listening to a boring professor talking while you are trying to watch a movie. It is just awful. I think he uses the word "preparation" at least 87 times. If I wanted to take a class on the process of film, I sign up for one at the community college annex.

I thought that the Director's Commentary was an oppertunity to provide background and insight into the particular scene you are watching, which Anderson does at no point! I am not a dolt that expects the director of this quirky film to explain things for me, but I would appreciate commentary that is related to the film I am watching.

Otherwise, grab your blue suitcase, go out, and pick up this film. Be preapred to watch it a few times, as the director will be providing ZERO information regarding the symbolism and themes of the film.

I couldn't agree more. I enjoyed this movie and have watched it numerous times. I wish the commentary would have given some insight into the symbolism of the film. I did enjoy hearing about "how to make a film on a shoe-string budget" but that could have been said in 20 min. or less and then we could have focused on the symbolism.

I give it a 7 on the imdb scale and encourage people to view this film.

I'm with you all. I hate when the commentary has little to do with the actual movie. I wanna hear behind the scenes stories about the actors, the extras, the locations etc.
