My email

This is my email I sent in regards to the possible DVD release of the 2nd-3rd seasons of "American Dreams".

To whom it may concern,
Please put out the second and third seasons of the beloved show, "American Dreams".

From the second I saw the first trailer of the pilot in late summer of 2002, I knew it would be incredibly intriguing. Since I was a child, I've always enjoyed learning about the 1960's and everything that shaped it...due to my father and mother, I have a strong love for the music from the decade especially. For instance, I've been a Beatles fan since I could walk and they have furthered my interest in other groups from that time. I prefer music from the 1960's, and early 70's, more than anything from today.

After watching the pilot episode, I fell head over heels and always tuned in every Sunday night. I was a senior in high school at the time, and always made sure to get homework done Saturday nights so that "American Dreams" would be able to be watched straight through. The writing was superb, the acting wonderful. As an actress-in-training, it was purely awesome to watch great performances from such actors close to my age, such as Brittany Snow, Vanessa Lengies, Will Estes, Sarah Ramos, Arlen Escarpeta, Jamie Elman, Milo Ventimiglia, and the rest of the young ensemble. Plus, what chemistry between Tom Verica and Gail O'Grady as Jack and Helen Pryor! I'll let you in on a little secret, and I hope it doesn't sound too obsessive: my radio was able to get reception from our local NBC television station, and so I would tape the current episode onto a blank cassette tape, while watching it on tv. Then during the weekdays until the next Sunday would roll around, I would love to listen to the past episode while doing my homework, cleaning my room, etc.

I just loved the show, plain and simple. I felt that I could relate to many of the feelings and situations the characters went through, despite it being set so long ago. Plus, the music was spectacular and I never envied my parents more- they were lucky to have witnessed such legendary times while growing up in the 1960's. On Thanksgiving Day of 2002, I went to watch the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade in NYC with my grandparents, and despite the evident chill in the air it was worth it to see the famous balloons in person for the first time BUT I never expected to see the cast of my favorite television series on one of the floats. What a surprise! I remember jumping up and down, waving to them, and seeing the odd looks from Grandma at me. I later explained who they were and why I was beyond happy to see them. I'll never forget that.

And I will NEVER get over the reasons why NBC canceled "American Dreams". Not only was I furious, but so were my friends who later grew to love the show after I let all of them borrow my DVD of the first season countless times. Even though I signed several petitions set up to save the show, I had a feeling none of them would be fairly successful. It seems that less and less quality series survive nowadays, while ridiculous and mind-draining shows- i.e. reality shows-stay. It's quite pitiful. But, I believe "American Dreams" still has a fanbase and a growing one at that, too. My college roommate became a huge fan, just after seeing the pilot episode from my DVD. I'm sure that my email is not the only one being sent to you concerning this issue of its cancellation and requests to officially release the second through third seasons.

There are websites selling DVDs of the episodes from the second and third seasons and I admit that I have never wanted to buy them, for they are not official. I do not trust them. I wanted to wait and see if the show's creators would finally bring them to the public. If that would ever happen, I'd be more than happy because I know the DVD sets would be carefully and lovingly produced for their fans.

So, please- for me, and for other followers of "American Dreams"- give us the show back. Put the commentaries, behind-the-scenes documentaries, extended music and "American Bandstand" scenes, and a reunion with the cast. The latter I heard would be a possibility for one of the seasons and it would be interesting to see them back together again.

"American Dreams" will always remain my favorite show. It IS a "future classic". I still miss it to this day, but having the second and third seasons on DVD, with their episodes and music intact (to the best of your abilities), will be forever appreciated. I have not seen any of them since their premiere dates so it would be quite special and bittersweet.

Thank you for your time in reading this. Please do not hesitate to email me back if you have any questions and/or comments.
Sincerely,
Sarah A. Baglione
