Temple U. bells ring end of class in 60s
Did a bell ring to signal the end of a class period at Temple University in the 60s? Maybe the series needed this "device" to artificially move the plot along?
I just watched Disc One of Season One- Mrs. Helen Pryor goes with her new "married to a Prof" friend from the book club to observe a class at Temple University, maybe English Lit....animated, spirited discussion about authors and books by the undergrads, facilitated by the youngish teacher----and a bell rings.
During my high school education the class periods were delineated by bells ringing, but once I got to college, you were informed of the class times to begin and end when you registered, you showed up for class, the teacher lectured or conducted the lesson, and finally around the time the class was supposed to conclude, we were told, "ok, class over, see you next time", or whatever. No bells.
What was it like for you?
