original series is farrr better!
and easier to understand and not quite as dark i liked it better when the characters actually had character and you can laugh at what they say.
shareand easier to understand and not quite as dark i liked it better when the characters actually had character and you can laugh at what they say.
shareI like the original series, but I like this darker and more serious take on the turtles much better. How do the turtles in this series have not character? Leonardo in just Season 4 alone proves that there is character development in this series. Season What's so hard to understand about this series? Stories carry over, it's not that hard to figure out. You must saw seasons 6 & 7, which were total crap.
Saying the original series is better than this one is like saying Super Friends is better than Justice League. But I guess people like one-dimensional stories with goofy humor added in better than more complex action-based ones. Go figure.
i liked it better when the characters actually had character and you can laugh at what they say.
And of course, that doesn't happen at all with this series right?
Oh wait...
Nothing tops the classic series. I watched this new crap and it's horrible.

Words of wisdom.
I like the 2003 series better.
Better animation
Better voice acting (to a degree)
Better animation
Better plot
More loyalty
I can go on and on.
Almost makes me thankful for not watching the 80s show.
How was the 2003 cartoon more faithful? It altered a lot of the comics issues such as return to new York, city at war and destroyed the character of kari and turned shredder in to an utrom.
While an entertaining show it is no more faithful than any of the other series. Plus the 2003 series was made when standard and practices had more relaxed rules than what previous decades.
"Life at best is bitter sweet"
Atleast those stories and characters were there in the first place. The 80s toon took inspiration from Ultroms to create Krang, that's it.
shareWell, the 80s show was watered down as none the comics could be adapted for kids tv same problem befell the 4kids in which all leo and raph could do is punch and kick. And shredder started out great then became a 1 character and over used just like the 80s cartoon.
shareI appreciate the 4kids version, the best version outside of the comics so far IMO and was very influential on the comics, which had a mutually influential relationship in the naughties. 80s toon was worse than just watered down (I can't think of any comic adaptation that had to suffer that due to censors except the HBO Spawn series), it had almost literally nothing to do with the comics by the second season.
shareAs do I. This show was pretty much the best outing for 4kids. This was the first Ninja Turtles show that I've seen, and i'm thankful for that. Give me dark and complex storylines over goofy, dated stories anyway.
sharethey had not to many comics at the time the 87 series was on. not to much to adapt from them plus times were different. cartoons couldn't really go darker until Batman: The Animated Series. I do wish that the series did keep the tone as season 1 though. I enjoy the 87 series for the most part due to it just being a tongue and cheek humors stab at some action cartoon tropes of the time and just pure wackiness. Also love the 2003 series and for me both have there pros and cons. Wish the 2k3 series would have received a better dvd release than funimation/4kids gave it.
Alfred: Bless my dustpan!
Plenty of story was covered in the regular series, back-ups and micro-series and RPGs (character bios, etc.) up to that point. The cartoon contradicted just about everything when there was no need for that. Not to mention they could have developed the show with Kevin and Peter so they could have complimented each other as Peter did with 2k3 and volume 4. No effort was made at all.
shareAt least the 2003 cartoon compensated this by making him a more serious and thus more interesting villian, unlike the 80s toon. Even you have to admit that the Shredder sounded cool, even with the frequent uses.
shareI found him to be interesting in season 1 but after that I found he became dull and 1 dimensional. would rather have seen them take a risk and actually do away with him for once.
Alfred: Bless my dustpan!
Okay, fair enough. But I still think the 2003 series is better that the original. You can respect that can you?
shareTruer words were never spoken—er written. Well, I think you are being a tad harsh, but I agree; the mini-series and Red Sky eps are the best that series had to offer. In fact, outside of perhaps season 2's Eye of Sarnath saga, it is all it had to offer. Though the Big trilogy finale of season 3 was decent.
shareYou men that, horribly dated cash-in crap? The new show is far better, even today. I don't even need to explain why.
shareI've tried to re-watch the original series, and not just leave it to nostalgia. Aside from the first season, it became boring relatively fast. It became unwatchable in the last couple of seasons. I was a kid watching it and couldn't even stand to watch it anymore. Back then, there wasn't as much competition to produce animated shows, and animation must've been a whole heck of a lost more expensive to do as well.
As an adult though, when I heard that they were rebooting the 2003 series, I gave it a chance, and I was impressed. I watched it again earlier this year, and 10 years from its premiere, it still holds up.
The new 2013 just doesn't do it for me. Too many random episodes that end up nowhere. I was impressed at the beginning, but by episode 10, it became redundant.
Too be quite honest, the boom of the Turtles in the last decade is directly from the 2003 series as well. The Turtles were headed into obscurity, considered uncool and a reminder of cheesy 80s cartoons, up until that series came out.
Same here, the 2012 series lost my interest so quick. THe creators of that show are trying to hard to make it closer to the 87 show taking some liberties from the 2k3 series. In an other words, they went backwards instead of forward.
The 2k3 set the bar high due to its dark tones (at least season 1 to the lost episodes).
The 2012 series is lacking that oomph overall.
