A million times better than the 2012 series

Seasons 1-5 at least. Who agrees?

reply

Yes, and I even liked "Fast Forward" and "Back to the Sewer." This new TMNT does the same thing they're doing with the new Ben 10.

reply

Yeah, the new Ben 10 is AWFUL. It completely destroys the mature tone that was grown during alien force and ultimate alien. Young Justice is the only thing I watch on Saturday mornings anymore.

I know you're not looking for anything else but yes men sharing your heavily biased opinion here, but using the outlandishly childish "a million times better" cliché makes your opinion less than useless.

It's too early to tell if 2012 is going to be able to live up to 2003. 2003's was great in many areas, but it had its share of flaws. I enjoy watching both and I like 1987 TMNT for cheesy 80s fun.

reply

I don't think they are even comparable. The new series takes more cues from the 80s series. It's much more aimed towards kids(younger audience), has bright colors(really pulling on 80s use of neons) and lots of cheesy humor. It's not AS goofy as the 80s series(kinda pulls some seriousness at times), but I see it more compared to that than the obvious "made for teens" 2003 series. Of course, there's nothing wrong with it.

I do enjoy the 2012 series more, oddly enough. Then again, I WAS a big fan of the 80s cartoon back in the day. It just feels like a strange non-canon continuation of sorts. It DOES take clear cues from the 80s toon(Splinter IS Hamato Yoshi, using the name Kraang instead of Utrom, and future references to Dimension X)

One is bland with an obnoxious level of far-reached elements, but with a pretty solid story, at times admirable character progression, and intense freedom to help explore certain characters or stories to their best potential.

While the other buries us in mutants, repeats plots and use of particular timed points, bland new characters, but has wonderful atmosphere, fight scenes, comedy, and fantastic understanding and execution of adapted characters, with a good balance of telling a meaningful or simply a fun story.

Both are bad and both are good.

Although I have only seen a few episodes of the 2012 series, I completely agree with you. I grew up with the 2003 series and I love it to this very day. It is my second fav cartoon series, and I own every single episode. The story archs were so cool and mature, the series more dark and edgy, and the action so heavy. Amazing series.

The major *beep* up on the 2012 version is the look. It doesn't look like a comic anymore! It's all 3d to try and be modern but it really takes away from the tone of the show. They look too soft and friendly...
The show is also too childish... It's not cool and 80s-like at all anymore.

I love the 2003 series! I want the DVDs but they're impossible to find!

I felt its because the 2003 series raised the bar on TMNT. They weren't afraid to be dark especially there were deaths off-screen quite a bit. The 2012 series feel too much of a step back into the past... a tad too much into the past. The enemies look terrible for the most part. I saw half of the 1st season of the 2012s series but it wasn't able to keep my interest long enough. Maybe some day I will finish it but it really can't compete with the 2003 series imo.
