Did Madison really have to tell Ephram? (spoilers)

I just saw the episode where Ephram is in New York and runs into Madison and they're having coffee and she decides to tell him about the baby. I think had she kept the baby then yes she needs to totally tell him that he has a child but she didn't keep him she gave him away. So what was her reason for telling him, how would it benefit anyone telling him that she had his child and put him up for adoption. No one benefits from this information not Ephram, Not Madison, Not Amy, Not the baby no one. Now if Ephram wants his child he has to start a legal battle where he'll rip this child from the only parents he's ever known. Ephram could have gone his whole life without knowing that there was a child out there that was part his.

I think probably she should have told him when she first got pregnant but she didn't and it's too late now so why tell him.

I'd love to hear what y'all have to say....

She told him because she thought his father should have, but didn't. Bad timing, though....

I feel that at the end of the day, it was probably better to tell Ephraim that he had a child, regardless of whether the baby was put up for adoption or not. I'd say that Ephraim WOULD want to know as soon as possible, otherwise, 20 years later here's a kid wanting to get to know their biological parents and one doesn't even have a clue. While he may not have been able to legally do anything by that point, he could contact the adoptive family (somehow finding their info?), giving them his information and just trying to explain that he would like to get to know his child, at some point. He's a fighter, Ephraim, and I think he would do everything he could to make sure that that child is safe and sound.

I don't know what I'd do if I were Madison. I can see both sides of the situation to telling him or not telling him. However, what I definitely disagree with is her telling him the day before his Julliard audition. She knew he was there to apply for school and how distracted he became when they were dating. She should have called him and made the coffee date for some time after the audition was finished.

She should have told him. Aside from a sperm bank donation, fathers deserve to know about their children. It's incredibly cruel not to tell the father.

Even though Andy told Madison not to tell epihram about the pregnancy figuring that his sons life would be over but I think he had the right to know,

I think Madison was carrying around alot at guilt but she should've waited until his audition was over.

Madison met with Ephram with the intent on telling him, but during their conversation she changed her mind and wasn't going to say anything at that point. It was only after Ephram started goading her that she told him.

I thought this episode showed Ephram in a bad light. All he could think about was himself. He never took into consideration that Madison refused Andy's money had the child on her own and made sure the child had a good home.

Madison was older than Ephram, but she was still a young girl who during the pregnancy was alone and scared, but still managed to do the right thing.

Ephram should have been sympathetic to her and not go off on her. Very self centered of Ephram.

I think she should have told him, obviously she should have told him while she was pregnant. He should have had the chance to decide if he wanted to raise his child. Its also better imo that he at least knows he has a kid out there, so if one day when his child is an adult he decides to search for him at least he’d knowns. Otherwise he'd be blindsided.

I don't think the episode painted Ephram in a bad light, I think it painted him in a very realistic light. Here was a 17 year old boy who was blindsided with the information that he was (not that he was going to be, but already was) a father. No nine months to get used to the idea that this is happening, just... one sec, 17 year old high school senior planning out his life, then BAM, next sec, a dad. Before his brain has time to process that info, before he even knows the sex of this child he's fathered, he's told it was given away for adoption. So, "you have a kid, but you'll never meet him or watch him grow him up 'cause he's being raised by strangers I picked out. But, don't worry, they seem nice."
And then he finds out the role his dad played in the whole thing. That's A LOT of information to process. Can you imagine the number of different emotions that must have hit his system in a small span of time? Not to mention the utter sense of betrayal from both Madison and Andy.
I don't think many fully grown adult men would have handled the situation any better honestly. Not in the moment. You're asking for a rational reaction, and unfortunately, emotions running high don't let you have rational reactions...especially when you're 17. It did take Ephram a year, but he eventually realized how he reacted was wrong, and he called Madison and apologized. Which, to me, was more realistic than if he'd been all forgiving and understanding in NY that day.

The secret would have eaten Madison and Andy alive if one of them didn't come forward with the truth. And it was better to get it out in the open now, because if Ephram found out 10 or 20 years later...yikes. Look how bad things got after less than a year of trying to keep it hidden.

It was a horrible situation all around, but Ephram had the right to know. Heck, he had the right to be part of the decision regarding what to do with the baby, but he was denied that. At the very least, he deserved the truth. Things like that don't stay hidden, and even if it had, Andy's whole future relationship with his son would have been a lie.

Honestly, Madison has always come off as a very immature and selfish person to me. I think her telling Ephram was more about alleviating her guilt than it was about Ephram. I mean, she couldn't even wait until after his audition, which was the only thing Dr. Brown asked of her. She really was one of the most annoying characters to me.
