The Live Action / Animated Combo Films.

Joe Dante made this film because he really hated "Space Jam" and thought that it ruined the characters.

However, he makes this movie which is so-so, it flops, and then gives Warner Bros. a signal that they shouldn't be making any more Live Action / Animation Combo movies anymore.

Thanks a lot, Joe! You thought you were saving a genre but you actually ruined it.

I've seen both films and although Looney Tunes BIA was better than Space Jam, I can't say either one was exceptional. They were fun, but mainly just showing off how they can mix live actors with animated characters.

I don't think either film matches up to "Who Framed Roger Rabbit". Roger Rabbit has more of a plot than either Space Jam or Looney Tunes BIA (thin as that plot was). Roger Rabbit was also more of a Tribute to the Golden Age of Animation than the other films too. Space Jam and Looney Tunes BIA were more of an effort to "modernize" the Looney Tunes characters and keep them "fresh" (for whatever that's worth) while Roger Rabbit stayed with the more tried & true gags & gimmicks.

Unfortunately, I don't think anybody will come up with films like these ever again. If they do, it will just be a "lookit what we can do" film and will probably be lots of CGI and an attempt to make the characters 3-D instead of looking like they did in the Hand-Drawn Animation Days. It would make sense because most animation is done with computers anyway and almost no studios are using Cel Animation any more, but it just wouldn't have the same feel. Probably will have Zero Plot too.
