billy west
how come he didn't voice bugs bunny in this he did in space jam
shareI guess I'd be as interested to know as you. Billy West is very talented. My initial thinking is that they preferred Alaskey and I can't necessarily blame them - Alaskey is fantastic and is my favorite for the character since Mel Blanc. These guys keep the characters alive. I've really developed an appreciation for voice acting because of them.
shareBilly West had actually recorded lines for Bugs, Tweety, and Marvin Martian, but was eventually replaced. I spoke to him in 2005. He wasn't happy about being replaced.
"Andy! You goonie!"

He probably put a lot of effort into it and he probably wanted to be "the" definitive voice of Bugs Bunny (at least for this generation since he also did Bugs in Space Jam and some other cartoon/sing-a-long stuff)…..I'm assuming they had both West and Alaskey record lines and they felt Alaskey was stronger? I have no idea. They kept West's recording as Elmer Fudd because it was so good, I'm sure. share
A funny thing that I mentioned here: Joe Alaskey in Roger Rabbit did Yosemite Sam's voice, which was originally done by Mel Blanc. I don't know why he did it, since Blanc was still alive and did other voices in that film. Alaskey was better here as Bugs than he was as Sam.
shareI thought I read something that Mel Blanc was having trouble doing some of his Looney Tune voices because he was getting older...
shareMaybe he was busy and they felt Joe Alaskey could do a better job. He did do Elmer J. Fudd's voice and Peter Lorre's though. And here's a funny thing about Alaskey: He did the Yosemite Sam voice in Who Framed Roger Rabbit, although Mel Blanc did the other voices.
shareWoah, Billy West ?! Wasn't he Rancid Rabbit in Catdog ? He really elevated that character to great levels of , entertainy....dynamism.
He's one of my favourite characters in the show, I'm always glad when he turns up because of Billy West's amazing voice, delightfully rancid.
