Not much better than Space Jam.....

I mean.......wow, was this a doozy. Joe Dante may have claimed this to be the anti Space Jam, but I saw no clear cut improvement, other than Joe Alaskey's Bugs and Daffy, and while he wasnt 100 percent on the mark, he was much better than Billy West Bugs and Dee Bradley Baker Daffy. Honestly, I chuckled twice, and only one of them was a redux of a joke from Rocky Horror( the "Janet! Dr Scott" gag). I mean, sure, the characters did act more like the original toons, but they weren't given anything new funny to say or do. The human actors were also bungle, especially Steve Martin, who I'm not sure who the hell he was channeling. Overreacting and chewing scenery is one thing, but gesticulating and speaking like a literally snivelling weasel? It doesn't come off as cartoonish or eccentric, but awkward and very stilted. *sigh* and even the animation felt flat, both integrated wth live action and on its own. Now, I didn't expect Richard Williams-like detail, but for a live action/ animation hybrid feature, I do expect a bit of fluidity. I am glad this bombed, and it was disheartening to see this put out by a director who earlier made essentially live action cartoons, but done incredibly well.
