Nod to "Top Gun"

Anyone else notice about 10 minutes in when helmetless he rides a motorcycle into the airport to meet the rest of the team. If that wasn't a reference to Top Gun I don't know what is.

Actually, MrBullo is correct. From the audio commentary:

Abrams - "This is a Top Gun shot, I have to say. I needed to put it in at least one time. I had to do it, you know."

Cruise laughs and agrees.

@MrBullo There was a great review which chronicled all the ways in which there were nods to previous Cruise movies, including Top Gun. Other examples were his disguise at the airport being a nod to Born on the Fourth of July, and the final scene being a nod to his couch-jumping interview with Oprah.

I wish I could tell you what review it was because I'd love to read it again, but I can't find it.
