i also like both films quite a bit ;) (both films i give around a 8-9/10 range. i seen both films quite a few times to.)
overall movie i would probably give the edge to 'The Italian Job', although car chase wise i am easily going with 'Gone in 60 Seconds' because the GT500 is a FAR better car than those mini cooper's which a serious car guy cant take seriously. lol
but as far a 'resemblance' ... i don't really see it to much since The Italian Job is more of a heist film where as Gone in 60 Seconds is basically about stealing cars.
They're also both remakes of movies that they only share vague similarities to.
and the remakes are better in both cases to by quite a bit ;)
Both films have good stars, good driving scenes, and a reasonably good story. The Italian Job (2003) does a much better job of making the thieves sympathetic, and it's directed with more dash, as well as having more money on screen and being funnier.
No David, the 1969 original was a comedy crime caper and they smashed up lots more cars and took great risks with the stunts they pulled (they'd just use CGi these days and not take the risks).
So there was a great deal of capital put into the 1969 original and the thieves were a bunch of inept cockney scallywags, but unless you're from the UK you probably won't understand.
yes i saw the resemblance right away in the seens shot from the air of the minis in the italian job & the similar scene of the mustang in gone in 60 seconds
