Made me consider buying a mini!

A superb ad for the mini indeed! Actually made me wabba buy one.
Not as good as the original film but better then expected; an enjoyable heist film with a decent plot annd gadgets.

Go test drive one when you're looking to buy a new car. They're actually pretty nice. Their weight makes them feel pretty powerful, they control pretty well, and they're unbelievably roomy when you sit inside.

Or buy an original/real Mini and you'll not only save a few pennies but you'll also stand out from the crowd plus have a hell of a lot of fun at the same time.

Anyone actually own a mini? They're great for city driving since it's such small car.

reply

minis are awesome cars and they're so damn cute! I test drove one they're fun as hell to drive and they are roomy too I was surprised since they're so small.

I own a 2006 MINI Cooper S. I wanted once since the day they were released in the U.S. I was actually going to buy one the summer of '01, but my company at the time had major layoffs and I was one. Alas, by the time The Italian Job came out I was still driving an '89 Honda. I totally forgot how cool they were until the spring of '06 when I decided I really wanted one. I saved up and picked up my MINI at the end of Oct. '06. The week it was supposed to arrive I watched TIJ over and over to get pumped up.

It's a great little car and great for the city I live in (San Francisco).

I've got a mini Cooper (Green Bitish racing or something like that).

I drive it in Paris and it is a lousy town car (poor turning radius, too heavy).
But take it on the road and wow !!!
And it is true they are incredibly roomy inside, even carried a large TV set in it once (not one as big as Steve's of course). So using it as armoured carrier is a good idea.

strangely enough, this made me focus on extracting revenge for a pal who was a gold thief & died during his final job. probably going to put together a crew soon; including my pal's really hot daughter who looks nothing like him. it's gunna be fun.

A smart fortwo would be better fuel-consumption-wise. But no doubt, Mini's have style.

reply

yeah they do have style...yep true

I wanted one as soon as I saw the movie!

When I needed to get a small quick sporty car this year that's what I went for, and the movie was a big influence (although obviously I wouldn't have bought it regardless if I didn't really like the car).

I seriously thought of getting one identical to Charlies car, but they don't do that exact colour anymore in the UK and the wheels on his are really expensive as you can't spec them when you order it, you have to get it with the wheels that are on it, and then buy those wheels separately which is a much more expensive way of doing it.

So in the end I gave up on that idea and went for black with the full body kit, split rim alloys and black leather interior. It's the latest Cooper S with the more powerful turbo engine rather than the previous supercharged engine and it's awesome!

But yes, I will happily admit that the movie was a big influence, and (like one of the other posters) I watched the movie again just before I picked the car up.

reply

haha oh wow

Really? Any Brits out there? (maybe the poster is British, oops)

reply

I am British and I had no clue that it was British
I knew the ford was to Americans

It's assembled in Oxford, but it's still a BMW and the profits made go to Munich and not the UK.

The real British Mini died on the 4th of October 2000.

Don't bother because BMW are scumbags and the BINI is rubbish, here's why: -

Good to hear that even the BMW employees aren't very impressed with the BINI either?

Well if it had won a few Monte Carlo Rallies (like the original real Mini regularly did), then it might have helped perhaps?

The Mini is my dream car, but unfortunately, it's light-years out of my price range. I've been driving the same used 2000 Corolla for 6 years. It's served me well, but I can't wait until I can afford to buy a new one.
