Eddie Murphey hasn't had a hit since the "Nutty Professor"

I rented "Daddy Day Care" last night and thought it to be a mediocre movie at best. I chuckled a few times, but it was much too "Disney"-ish for my liking. I suppose I'm also older than the target audience for this film.

This doesn't explain Eddie Murphey's degeneration from comic genius a few years ago to comic chump. After the well-deserved hype he received for "Nutty Professor", his choice of roles has been questionable to say the least.

I remember not even having the slightest inclination to see the 2nd "Nutty Professor", or "Holy Man", or "I Spy" or "Pluto Nash" nor anything he's done in the last several years. If "Daddy Day Care" is the best film role he's had since "Professor", then I don't think he's going to be a box office draw for much longer. He needs to start picking better scripts or else he risks fading into obscurity.

Well, actually, .. a lot of his recent movies have made a boat-load of money.. including daddy day care, dr. dolittle 1&2, klumps 1&2, shrek...haunted mansion even made a good bit of money. As long as they make money, they'll keep making them. They've been hits...just not adult hits.

Look at Daddy Day Care, relatively cheap to make (no special effects & only one big star), but pulls in a chunk of money for the studio. It's that simple.

Eddie is at a point in his life/career where he is a father and wants to make movies that he can take his children to. Nothing wrong with that...a man's children are always gonna come first in his life. From what I understand, they are in talks to make a new Beverly Hills Cop flick. So maybe all of you who want raunchy Eddie may get your wish.

Ok Haunted mansion only made 75 mil on a budget of 90 mil+ I guess overseas numbers may be strong one day.

I doubt it, somehow... even BHC3 was severely 'toned-down' to make it more 'family-friendly', and an infinitely poorer outing resulted, IMO...

Eddie Murphy is huge in the non-American market. All of these films are not very expensive (no big effects etc.) and are relative hits on every markter (theater, dvd/video, rental, pay-per-view, tv).

He might not have a lot of big hits, but no big flops either (well, maybe Pluto Nash).

Daddy Day is just about ok but Eddie Murphy is the most annoying actor in hollywood history he's worse than Adam Sandler

reply

I beg to differ. Adam Sandler (while he may be able to pretend-fart) is horrible. Examples: Little Nicky, Eight Crazy Nights, Mr. Deeds) I didn't laugh during any of these movies, whereas Eddie Murphy at least gets one chuckle in his worst movies. And how can you say that Sandler is better after Murphy plays "Donkey" in Shrek 1&2?

Moosey fate! Say moosey fate!
