It has great acting, story, characters etc. the only thing I've seen people complain about was the violence. If that's the case you should just stay away from R rated movies if you can't handle them. So don't say that it was a bad movie because you were bothered by the violence, that's just bias. It's every bit deserving of its rating because its a damn good movie

...because some people don't share the same opinion as you? I enjoyed this movie, but I failed to see what everyone's gushing about. The acting and directing were both undeniably great, but nothing genuinely stuck with me, and i didn't finish the film thinking "wow, THAT definitely deserves its super high rating!"

@ilikepurplexd: I felt the same way as you. I had just seen The Secret in Their Eyes (Best Foreign film 2010) and that one blew me away!! It's an awesome Argentinean film (murder-mystery/drama) that has a rapidly growing fan base. So in comparison, City of God seemed to lack story and character development somehow. However, I did appreciate the cinematography, direction, and acting. While I enjoyed it enough, I'm not likely to re-watch it. Whereas, I will be purchasing The Secret in Their Eyes DVD very soon.
