Watched it again last night and one thing that I always found amazing in this, was how the acting looks totally real and fluid. Most of them were amateurs who never really acted and you just feel you are watching real people. Amazing.

Agree! As someone else pointed out KIDS too was amazing. But if I had to pick between the two film I would choose City of God.

What was truly amazing was the scene when Lil Ze has the makes young kid who wants to join his gang choose then kill one of the runts. The acting of the one child who first gets shot in the foot and the look on the kids face who has to choose is remarkable. It was the most disturbing scene I have ever witnessed in a movie, amazing that the actor were all amateurs.
That kid nailed it. I felt so sad for him, it was almost like he really thought he was about to die.
shareYep, amazing. You have Fatima Toledo to thank for that. She picked and trained all the actors right out of the street. Some I think were already actors/models, like Bene and his older brother, but the rest, that's just Fatima's work.
shareFor anyone who doesn't speak Portuguese it may sound like professional acting, but some of the line delivery was a bit off on some points. Also, due to the fact most of the dialogue is improvised, you can hear some slang words that were not part of the general vocabulary in the 60s and 70s.
