... And forgot they were reading subtitles? I mean, the movie was so engrossing.

I always prefer subtitles to dubbing. Dubbing should never be done under any circumstances. Dubbing always kills every film that uses it.
shareI disagree. Sometimes it's nice to see a film without having to flick your eyes around all the time. I like subtitles for the ability to see and hear the original performance, as well as get a closer translation. But dubbing isn't worthless, in my opinion. A good dub job lets you focus on the visual storytelling more fully.
In live action like City of God, I prefer subtitles, but particularly with cartoons, I think dubbing has its place.
I disagree, often I was reading the subtitles and missed the acting.

I think it takes you out of the experience more listening to a voice that sounds unnatural as compared to reading the translation.
