I like that Costner hires actors from his other movies. Jeter of course in Waterworld, and I also recognized the crazy sailor from Waterworld who the Mariner almost allowed to go down below for a good time. Then killed him. In Open Range, he killed him again, at point blank range! I bet no one recognized that guy.
shareIt seems like Denzel does that too. Not hire, since he generally doesn't direct his movies, but I've noticed that people from his past movies have popped up in some of his most recent ones. John Goodman, Bruce Greenwood, Paula Patton, etc.
The actor who played Sheriff Poole (James Russo) was also in "The Postman", and I can't speak for anyone else, but I also recognized the actor (Kim Coates) you're talking about. It's always fun to see character actors pop up in random movies, and even more so when they're reunited with other co-stars.

Kim Coates (point blank), oh I noticed! Also know that Kev was very fond of Jeter, and was hurt when Jeter passed.
Clint Eastwood was also known for his stable of favorites. Must have used Lewis in about 5 films.
Kevin also uses one of the greatest stuntmen in his films, as coordinator and as his double.
Jeter was great in this. RIP
