Far too sentimental

The movie was 2hours and 12mins long(30mins longer than most movies) and most of it was sentimental cheeseball dialogue. It brought an interesting plot to a very boring stagnant place.

Personally, I totally disagree with your statement. I thought the dialogue was great and what actually made the movie the masterpiece it is.

That is the Costner curse. He can't resist filling his films with syrup.

I personally love that - I guess it's his personal touch.

To each their own ;)

It was a great western. I really loved it.
but I wondered if he made it back and married her.

reply

SO? Most movies clock in at about 90 minutes+?
Cool! Did not know that:-D

reply

What really got me was the ending .. right after the exciting shoot out we have to sit through this drawn out sentimental ending where he asks her to marry him.

reply

totally agree with you and they should just end the movie after he asked her to marry him but instead it goes on with another scene where they say goodbye to get the drove and they start to kiss, that was just too much imo

..get some kids.. you'll learn..

reply

respectfully, i disagree :-)

Artistathome,

. . . the movie pretty well implies he definitely would come back - he and boss only went out to bring in, or go sell the free-rangin' cattle they left out there during the final show down . . .

"Open Range" is probably the best western of the past thirty years, and even holds its own with golden-age westerns of the late 1940s and 1950s. Part of what makes it great is that it takes its time, it develops its main characters, and it has thoughtful, realistic dialogue. I wouldn't change a thing about it, except for eliminating the end title song.
