Difficult to see how this film could be bettered.

Although I cannot claim to be a fan of Kevin Costner as an actor, he clearly has an undeniable reverence for the Western genre and put his heart and soul into this film. The result is a wonderfully engaging experience.

The cast is superb as is the cinematography. I much prefer this movie to Dances with Wolves. Robert Duvall was born to play Boss Spearman and Annette Benning brings depth and warmth to what could have been just another 'love interest' role.

The terrific supporting cast also deserves great credit. This film is a treat not to be missed.

the only thing they should have done is edit out the part where he leaves at the end and comes back. Completely unnecessary and added 15 minutes to running time.

This in nearly a perfect movie. The only thing I would change would be to eliminate the banal, anachronistic end-title song.
