*Spoiler Alert*

When Behrani found Kathy with the gun in the car, he seized it and carried her inside. This is grave mistake on his part. As soon as he took the gun, he must have reported to police. This would have ensured,
* Kathy is taken to hospital and gets right help.
* Hot headed sergeant is put through enquiry on being careless his gun and possibly charged with threatening Behrani.
* With both Kathy and Lester out if the way, Behrani would have had the house and his son.

What do you say? ?

This whole movie is people making mistakes .

Starting with Behrani faking a life of opulence for his kids and step family.

I think Behrani felt responsible for Kathy. He explicitly said that, at that point, Kathy was like an injured bird in need of help.

He wasn't totally cold - exactly the opposite, he was doing what he felt he had to in order to provide for his family in the manner he felt they deserved.

Personally, as a man providing for his own family, I can identify with Behrani. In his position, I wouldn't have given up the house either. At most, I'd have helped her seek monetary damages from the county, perhaps even enough to buy back the house.
