I think it would have been better if the abusive man hadn't been written as the boy's father. Maybe stepfather would have been better, or a neighbor. Having him be the father makes the whole story too uncomfortable for a children's movie, and gives it a dark dimension, which is out of place in a Benjie film. I kept thinking what will happen when the father gets out of jail later?

Yeah, I agree! That was pretty harsh! But, I liked this film... I must admit.

Did seem kinda jarring at first, but considering the Benji movie I grew up with involved a couple of kids being kidnapped, and this is the same director, it's actually kinda consistent.
