I was just wondering if anyone knows if there may be a music video released from the movie. From what we have heard, Robert sings the last song in his own voice and just hoping it could be made into a video. This could possibly help to promote the movie as well.I think a lot of his fans would love this!
First, yes, Robert indeed sings under the closing credits, and he has a wonderful voice. He also plays the piano on the track and does his own backing vocals.
For the body of the film, all the songs are lip-synched to old recordings (and no attempt is made to hide that fact the actors aren't singing), which was part of Potter's style - his comic, surreal way of commenting on how the pop culture we grow up with invades our minds and hearts, and can put words in our mouths that aren't really our own.
But I thought, in the context of the story, and since Robert has such a great voice, it might be nice to have him 'find' his voice at the end of the story. Most people probably won't even realize it's him, unless (like me) they stay and read the end credits.
My editor is currently cutting a video from the song. Not sure what Paramount Classics will ultimately do with it - whether it will end up on the DVD (likely), or on VH1 or MTV (no idea how that works). But it will be around somewhere. And, in answer to an earlier question, there will indeed be a soundtrack. The deal is done, and it should come out close to the time of the film.
Hi! thanks Keith for taking the time to answer! Great news about the soundtrack and the possibility of a music video. I do hope we are able to see the video...that would be quite a treat! I hope Paramount Classics releases it ahead of time. I know there would be a lot of interest in it. Well thank you again for the information, take care...Judy
Thanks so much for the info Keith! I have my calender marked and driving directions to the art house in hand. I'm dragging everyone I know to see this.
