I just wanted to pass on the extraordinary good news that the original BBC miniseries of "Pennies From Heaven" is apparently coming out on DVD this spring:

As a fan of screenwriter Dennis Potter, this has been the "Holy Grail" for me ever since I saw the original miniseries of "The Singing Detective" 13 years ago. "Pennies From Heaven" was made into a somewhat-disappointing movie starring Steve Martin in 1981, but the original miniseries was the one that really helped put Potter "on the map", and helped to establish his signature style of combining serious live action with lip-synched singing and dancing.

It's been on PBS a few times in the states but I've never seen it. I'm excited, and I hope you all are, too! And, in case this hasn't been mentioned before, any fans of the Robert Downey movie should really check out the original "The Singing Detective" (also on DVD) to see the greatest masterpiece ever created for the medium of television.
