Africa
In spite of all the violence, corruption and suffering, I find Africa to be a fascinating continent and the people in it. What are your views??
shareIn spite of all the violence, corruption and suffering, I find Africa to be a fascinating continent and the people in it. What are your views??
shareMy views are that Africa is awesome, and it pains me to hear about all the conflict over there.
This movie ruled!
It would probably be an interesting continent to visit, but not with all the violence and unrest. Same with the Middle East and many Asian nations.
shareYou kidding? That makes it even more interesting.
That just means you need to know what to pack when you go over there.
Sounds like an interesting place with an amazing history but very f--ked up due to premature independence.
sharePremature independence?!?!? What the *beep* are you talking about? You sound like a pocketbook intellectual. Surely to God you don't mean they should have learned from Europe or America how to run a nation before they were allowed to take control. They were doing fine until Europe and America *beep* them up in the first place. Then each time they started to make some headway, those same nations would interfere, either economically or politically, and *beep* them up again. Go back to school.
shareWere they doing great? really? killing 18 year old woman if she havent had a child as being "useless" is doing great? living in tribes when whole worlds hae left this lifestyle couple million years ago? i wouldnt call that "doing great".

I have a feeling that you're way off on this.

"Africa is a continent with 52 countries. Not all of them have civil war.
Not all of them are *beep* as you eloquently put it.
It's just the Media and Hollywood who tends to stereotype the whole continent as one which is kind of annoying having been there personally.
It's either a report on famine, civil war or the jungle.
There is another side which people like yourselves have not been lucky enough to discover.
The music, the culture, the movies(yes they make movies there to albeit with cheap equipment but they do). "
You are right. Also the events that occured in this movie is pure fiction but unfortunately alot of (smart) people can't figure this out.
I'll take you ALL ON!
it is a MOVIE(fICTION)
shareExactly, the far majority of the continent is relatively peacefull. Beautifull nature and very interesting cultures. Definitly a place I advice everyone to go to when the opportunity arrises.
Faith starts where thinking ends!
Yes they should have learned from Europe and America, each of whom made so many mistakes in plain view of the world...there's little excuse for younger nations to repeat those mistakes. You're just saying what's easiest for you.
shareBut you can never ever put criticism forth about africa (and particularly nigeria) if you arent from there. they dont take well to outside criticism even if it it constructive and you actually know what you are doing. and to another poster you can blame the evil colonialists if you want and say thats why there are problems there now. but its not true. look at india. look at malaysia. look at hong kong. look at singapore. look at south africa. all these were colonized and now they are doing well. could be the fact that there is a lacking maintenance culture over there. they were better off before they came into the modern world, and to be honest i have no problem if they return go back to there agrarian roots

Before Europeans went to Africa their peoples were already already killing each other.
And some them invaded Europe before.

some harsh words from some people very quick on the keyboards..
ledos...is every single country on the continent of africa in civil war? uh, no...but i don't really think the african tourism council is proud of that fact...c'mon man
the un is CURRENTLY tracking 10 or so shooting conflicts....libya, has only recently - withing the last year - started to behave...eritrea and ethiopia have been fighting for three DECADES...
i won't waste anyone's time on the obvious of sudan, specifically darfur (though more of sudan is falling into civil war than just darfur), rwanda and sierra leone...and of course somalia which is setting historical world records on a country with no gov't with most killings
or we could talk about conflict diamonds where africans (let's throw some women and kids in this) are enslaving africans to find diamonds to sell to white men to get cash to buy guns to kill more africans...
though i might not've used the same words, many many many african countries, are currently - f+++ed...and that is a fact...
the current mess in the congo has involved seven of its neighbor countries
sierra leone, disaster...and even countries like nigeria that have seas of natural resources at their disposal have to deal with internatl rebel groups...
and ledos, you dismiss all this as, wait for it, HOLLYWOOD and the media as being one sided on the issue?!?! here i actually have to give hollywood more credit than the red cross, and the un combined...no other group has brought as much attention to what is really going on over there...media? stop kid..stop...
africa is a continent, where most, MOST of it's nations are in trouble, period...undoubtedly, the west will be blamed for this lot...the west is always blamed for any calamity in the world...but these africans have squandered resources, enslaved their fellow african, and in the cases of somalia, libya, and sudan have exported their messes to the rest of the world...unacceptable...
many parts of africa are still tribal, where justice is by the spear and courts - the ones that can even remotely be considered just, are non-existent...
i have actually been to africa..spent 10 days in morocco, loved it....have to go back to see the pyramids, a safari in kenya and i hear s.africa is beautiful..
i'll be the first to say it is beautiful over there, friendly people, etc...but that doesn't change the fact that it is a mess...
it is better to have a gun and not need it, than to need a gun and not have it
saw the flic again and between when i posted the above and now things have actually gotten worse.....sad.
it is better to have a gun and not need it, than to need a gun and not have it
Never been there but I know quite a lot of its history. One can only imagine what might have been if Africans were permitted to developed without European or Islamic interference. It's a beautiful place with amazing cultures and music to die for. And it has horrific diseases, nasty snakes, some rather vicious animals, all of which add to its allure. I'd have love to work there when i was younger.
