This film is brilliant, but I fail to understand how this has a 6.6? Anyone want to help me out?

I'm watching it now and it's overwhelming . I had never heard of it before, and that's a shame. A very good movie. I'm a proud American and Bush "JR" ruined our reputation and I hope that we reclaim the respect we once had. We have helped so many countries . This film is an example of what I'm sure we have done.

Yeah, it's one of those films people love to hate & nitpick for illogical reasons. I just came to this board today after a co-worker told me she was a Marine & this was one of her favorite military movies.
I've owned it since its home release & also love it, but never checked the IMDB page before. After seeing its user rank and a lot of the message topics here, it's sad to see people criticizing this movie over ridiculous things like the "They never ran out of ammo" thread. Really?
Or another that said it was interesting that the attacking force was Muslim & the victims Christian. Obviously, people who no nothing about Africa or the Middle East's state of affairs, ethnic cleansings and history (or heck, current events with ISIS), are making uneducated assumptions. Christians are in the minority in a lot of these third world countries in those areas and are under constant threat, persecution, and millions are being slaughtered over the last few years as ISIS and other radical terrorist groups rape, pillage, burn churches/homes and forcefully recruit young soldiers from victim's families (or in some cases, forcing them to execute their loved ones or die with them). That's reality. Have Christians committed many atrocities over the last 4 thousand years? Sure, but this flick has a pretty accurate plot, despite being historically based on any one particular event in the past.

Okay, yeah - I just checked and you and the other dudes were right. I should have paid more attention.
I do, however, stand by my opinion that the religious faiths of the two opposing sides have little to do with the way they treat each other... I'm explaining myself in a very clumsy fashion, I know, but I believe that the violence portrayed in the flick, and the real life situations that it's based on, would be happening regardless of the professed religions of each faction. Christian vs Christian, Muslim vs Muslim, Muslim vs Christian, Bahá'í vs Zoroastrian, Shinto vs Asatru - wouldn't really make a difference.
The flick shows Fulani (sp?) vs Ebo - that's the primary reason for the hatred and violence. Religious beliefs are / were secondary to generations old ethnic / tribal prejudices.

No worries! I was about to reply when I noticed that you also already noticed. I will say that generally speaking, at least in Africa, it seems less likely that Christians would commit genocide for religious reasons than a very much more radicalized Islam at the moment (I am not claiming in any way that there are no radical Christians FYI, but they seem to hold less political sway in this day and age). Though Christianity has had its fair share of dark moments as well, I cannot entirely say I agree, at least on religion grounds, though a lot of the time, these things happen for a number of reasons, political included. That said, the film itself does not really suggest the reasons for the genocide beyond religious and ethnic reasons in the theatrical cut. The directors cut suggests a cycle of violence as well, pertaining to the current and future late Kings ascension leading to the rebels being forced from the country, which definitely parallels Rwanda, if one were to blend the actions of the Interahamwe with the history of the RPF.

Also, would it surprise you to learn that from 1980 to 2005, only four percent of the terrorist attacks on US soil were carried out by muslim terrorist groups? In Europe, the figure is even lower - I only have data for 2006 through 2009, but over that time period, Ninety Nine point Six (99.6%) percent of attacks were carried out by non-muslim groups. I eagerly await your updated and amended responses. :D

In just a short time recently, it is around 100 planned or carried out, Jihadist attacks in the US. And you know the media is not reporting many. Also, due to news articles, Sharia is being introduced in US courts.

The idea of that happening seems completely unrealistic to me - imagine the scene at Fox News: "Boss, reports coming in of an Islamist terror attack in Kansas City!" - "Naaah, we don't report on stuff like that. Bin it."

If you can talk so readily about there being more than one hundred attacks (or planned attacks) in the past decade, I'm sure you can remember at least one or two?
Even if your numbers are correct, I'd be even more interested to see a list of attacks (or planned attacks) by NON muslims put next to it so they could be compared.
I'm also really curious as to how you heard about all these attacks if nobody reported on them?

There are a lot of realism issues with this movie. It's a decent action flick. I'd say it's good, but not great.

One of the movies I like most, and Hans Zimmer's music is beautiful.
I also don't understand why it only has 6.6 ?
