this was 2003 after all,

wasn't exactly the land of wonderful ring tones back then. ;)

Maybe I'm reading too much into it, but perhaps the director purposely chose the most annoying ringtone he could find to accentuate the jarring effect of the needy & clingy brother's constant interrupting phone calls on Sarah's love life.

Just a theory, but if I was this film's director, I certainly would have done the same.

I really like this movie, and I'm a single guy not all that into romantic comedies, but I make an exception for this film...

IIRC, it was the default Nokia ringtone at the time and probably the most ubiquitous. If you heard that sound you knew it was a cell phone going off.

It was a pretty common ringtone at the time. Wasn't much choice back then. :/

Exactly. I remember that ringtone was everywhere for a while.
