Should have been called "Crush Actually"

There was no deep and developing connection in any of the love matches. They're mostly either love at first sight or crushes from afar.

The Colin Firth/Sienna Guillory match did demonstrate a love that grew, but they could barely communicate at the time (he said in the restaurant that he hardly knew her).

The Martin Freeman/Joanna Page match wasn't shown beyond the shallow grabs at work.

The Gregor Fisher/Bill Nighy business bromance probably came closest.

But I did laugh at the octopus in the car.

Have to disagree with you there - they are not making 'shallow grabs' at all, the positions they were in, and their actions, were not their own choices, but were instructions by the assistant director of the film for which they were working. You do understand what their job is? there's a thread a bit down the board about it.

While all this is going on, they are conducting a very shy, hesitant and totally innocent courtship; the most daring thing that happens is Jack asking Judy to come to a film with him. I think they're charming.

By "shallow grabs" I was using a double-entendre to refer to their dialogue. Their verbal connection didn't really get past this.

most romantic comedies feature relationships that develop quite quickly, the length of most films doesn't really allow for in depth relationships. i thought the martin freeman storyline was ome of the best, two shy people developing a hesitant relationship while doing a job that forces them to be very intimate, it was funny and rather touching.

Sort of get what you are saying but there are a lot of characters to cover in a short time. I think they evoke a lot of emotion for a handful of scenes a piece.
