Was this supposed to be an Anti-American movie?

From making Billy Bob's President inappropriate to Colin's declaration (and proven experience in Milwaukee) that American girls are just easy sluts, I'm starting to wonder.

No, it's just a celebration of all things British.

But it did come out in 2003, at a time when Europeans were upset with George W. Bush and America in general over the aftermath of 9/11 - that might have influenced the decision to have Hugh Grant's character stand up to BB Thornton's.

I think Laura Linney’s character proves the film isn’t anti-American, but it does seem to try to present an alternate universe Tony Blair who doesn’t immediately bend over for a (Southern) American President and follow him into a catastrophic aggressive foreign policy, but instead stands up to him.

It might have sinister reasons for portraying its Blair and Bush cyphers in this way…

The president was modeled on Bill Clinton. The film's makers have even said so.
